new trend? (7 posts)

  • today my page got  2 messages …both from  distant  antique stores   complimenting my page and asking  me to   like  their page…ikkk…

i dont want their  posts on my  business page … so even if i wanted to  like them i wouldnt  do it as a page.i would  do it as a person…….it was a sweet  friendly  message about  spreading the love…lol

this hasnt happened  before  …did  something  change?

  • Ann, I would almost speculate that it’s more a matter of other antique dealers just now finding your page.  Over the years, I’ve periodically had other dealers message me, so I wouldn’t think it’s an issue of something having changed.

I’m confused by your reference to not wanting their posts on your business page, though. Their posts wouldn’t appear on your page, they would just show up in your business page’s feed.  Granted, I don’t believe you can turn their posts off in your business page’s news feed, as you can on a personal page, but then again, if you’re like me, you probably spend most of your Facebook time wearing your personal hat.

  • @hjelliott, ive had  other dealers  find my page and post  something  nice.,……but this was different  in that they asked me to  return the favor and like their page…. ;i assumed if i  did as  they asked and liked their page  as a business, then their  posts would appear in my  pages  feed  somewhere….and i  dont want that..why else would  they  want  me  to like them?

i have never had a  business directly   ask me to trade likes  before…..or personally ask  me to like their page…  i didnt  do it..

. most of my  facebook time is  business….i post  2  times a day and  have to  relpy  to   comments etc….and  work on my pictures…

  • I think it’s just fallout from Like exchanges on LinkedIn. They’re trying to collect Likes not understanding the process or how likes populate on a fan page. “sure I’ll like your fan page, Would you like me to put a banner or button on my site linking back to your site too won’t take but a minute?” They don’t understand there’e no difference.
For years and some websites still believe link exchanges help a site Google search – it’s people guided by misinformation.

  • As your page grows you will get more and more of these.I get them daily, also people asking me to post Youtube videos, affiliate links, new apps, competitions they have entered and pretty much everything else you can imagine haha

  • i got another one today…..  im  hiding  these  …which  would  be a negative  to  the senders….  if negatives  count   for anything, i would think the  folks   doing this would  be getting a lot of   negatives and maybe  rethink this  plot….

. @pacey, we must  be in diffferent  worlds,,,,this isnt normal in my  retail store world,,…   my page is pretty  big and i have never  gotten this kind of stuff  tilll  this  month… im  guessing  this is a new  idea  being   floated around  somewhere….  but it might  backfire if   it   gets the senders lots of  negatives…  im  just not interested in  advertizing  for  the  competition…. my page is about  my  business…. and related  stuff that  i  choose….

  • It’s not a new concept, but the idea may have been posted on recently on a blog somewhere.  If you were to like their page their posts wouldn’t end up on your page, just in the pages news feed, which I am sure you never look at.  If it’s not in your strategy to work with other stores to create an online/offline community then just x them.
