  • Greetings, Social Media Enthusiasts!

Leave a message here to find and network with peer club members who live or work in the Southeast Region, including these states:

AL, AR, FL, GA, KY, LA, MS, NC, SC, TN

You’ll find me in both the SE Region and International Region Forums, having lived in both Atlanta, Georgia, USA and Republic of Georgia (former Soviet Union), but made these seven regional forums so we could all network with those who work or live close by.

The seven forums include the International Region and six for the USA: NE, SE, MIDWEST, SW, MTN, WEST. Please help your neighbors find these regional forums so we can all help each other find each other! Thanks for your help.

    Happy Networking!

    Robin Carlisle

  • Greetings!

My name is Robin Carlisle and I live and work in Flowery Branch, Hall County, Georgia at Lake Lanier. After talking with Dea Irby, who lives In Habersham County, Georgia, just up I-985 from me, we thought it would be a grand idea to set up some regional networking categories here, so that those of us nearby to each other may do a little regional networking.

For now, at least, I figured putting one for each state would wreck the first page of Topics, so I divided the country into six regions and added an international region to the mix.

I’m a professional writer, editor, videographer, internet marketing and small business consultant, and teacher who had the honor and privilege of teaching English in Sachkhere, Republic of Georgia (former Soviet Union) last year. Their president wants their children to learn English within the next few years to ensure their country’s peace and prosperity.  And I still want to help him do that.

Teaching and living in such a beautiful country, both their people and their landscape, was an experience I’ll never forget and long to return to someday. My goal is to convert my living into an international one, where I can spend winter months here in Georgia USA and the milder months in their Georgia working on my laptop and volunteering in their community teaching English. I’ll most definitely be a double trouble international Georgia girl then!

Another goal is to help my school there build internet resources online for our students there. They have no heat in the school, no chalk, little paper, and few resources but big hearts and a desire to learn English. Any ideas or help you could throw my way on this project of the heart would be greatly appreciated.

Happy Networking to all of my SE Region neighbors! Hope we’ll all get to meet someday!

  • @atlantarobin Great. Robin, Two-timing GA girl! WePay.com has a contribution part to their website that also has 3 other parts: store, send invoices, collect bills. You could set up an account to raise money for the school.

  • @deairby

Dea, make sure you introduce yourself here in this SE Region Forum, too. Even if you just copy what you wrote in the Introductions Forum. I’m very excited at the thought of networking in our area.

So get busy and post your Howdy Neighbor Introduction here soon!

  • @atlantarobin I did, and don’t know what happened to it…here goes again:

  • @atlantarobin I’ve tried twice to copy and paste and it didn’t work…so here goes typing…So glad Robin thought of this forum and did it in regions. I’m also a Southern girl, have lived all over the South in my 37 years of marriage. I am excited to be a part of this group and hope to learn a great deal from other SME members. I’ve had many different life experiences: mom of 8 (same husband, same body), grandmom of 8 (so far), four of my two married children live out of the country, owned a tea room, The Baron York ( http://www.thebaronyork.com ), for 7 years, a playwright/director/producer, cookbook writer (A Dollop and A Pinch: Recipes and Stories from The Baron York), author (current working title: A Flavor-Infused Life: being your own unique self), chef, tea certified by Specialty Tea Institute, world traveler (visiting my children and exchange children, staying on a tea plantation), speaker, blogger (www.thebaronyork.wordpress.com) pastor’s wife, homeschooling mom, weight loss coach, social media student!, lover of Truth, believer in the uniqueness of every created person ….grabbing on to God’s coat-tails and hanging on for the ride of my life….and trying to rebrand myself? (Help!)

  • @deairby
I just knew it! You are sooo my kinda gal! So glad to meet you on here. If you’re ready for another exchange student, I’ve been a Community Coordinator since 2006 for PAX Academic Exchange. This year, I went through all kind of training to qualify as a FLEX Cluster Leader (Future Leaders Exchange). This is the program sponsored by the U.S. State Department (yeah, Hillary’s my ultimate boss) where students from former Soviet Union countries (including the other Georgia) compete in a year long competition for leadership scholarships paid for by our US government for them to attend a year of high school here.

President Daddy Bush set this up after the Soviet Union crashed to insure we’d always be friends in the future. Having taught in former Soviet Georgia, I know what a HUGE deal this is for students to compete for these scholarships. I had a few of my Georgia students get on the alternate list and became good friends with a former FLEX student and her teacher mom there. After they return to their own country, the FLEX program keeps going on and on, and these students are truly well-respected leaders in their communities. It’s an amazing program… if you or someone you know might be interested, let me know. Since FLEX is a leadership training program, too, we have to place these students in clusters of three, living and going to schools reasonably near to each other so Cluster Leaders can meet with them together once a month. They don’t have to go to the same school, just be where it’s convenient to meet in the middle once a month. On the other hand, PAX handles not only the FLEX students, but students from countries all over the world as well.

But then again, I bet you’re a cluster or community coordinator for a nonprofit exchange yourself! Small world, huh?

  • @atlantarobin That’s pretty awesome. Our first exchange daughter was from Germany -28 years ago! Then we had two sisters, one year after the other, from Amsterdam about 20 years ago.

  • So glad we were able to find and network with each other here.

If you see others in the Clubs from our region, please ask them to stop by here and add their name, links, and information.

This is also a great place to return and add links for local and regional events, groups, associations and anything else that may be helpful to those in our area. I’ll go grab the link for the social media association in Atlanta and see if there are any more in our area.

    Happy Networking yall!

  • Recently, I’ve been getting a lot of requests for help in finding regional contacts, so I’m posting this so our newer members don’t overlook this. Please encourage fellow members to introduce themselves in these Regional Forums. I’ve already made life-long friends and associates here, so I know how helpful these more local contacts can be.

    Happy Networking!

  • Had a request today from a member who wanted to find others in their Region, so posting this to bump it back up. Please leave your info here so others can find you. Happy Networking!

  • @atlantarobin @deairby  Hey, Robin and Dea. I’m about eight or nine hours from you both in Clermont, Florida, and actually lived in Lithonia, GA for three years as a kid. Small world. =)

  • I think this regional thread is a great idea!  I am the online marketing specialist for a pest & termite control company in Atlanta, GA.  Our corporate office is located in Marietta, GA but we have 17 service centers across Georgia and Tennessee which service GA, TN, SC, and AL.  We have a very strong and loyal customer base but have difficulty building our following online.  Our biggest obstacle is that pest control isn’t a glamorous topic; people don’t want to hear or think about it until they need our services.  As marketers, our job is to give the customers interesting information and keep them engaged so that when they do need us they will remember to “call Northwest”.  I’m looking forward to being a part of this group!

  • Hi Everyone – I grew up in Atlanta and now live in Birmingham, AL. I am a consultant with Willow House (formerly Southern Living at Home). I am trying to learn all I can about growing my business with Social media. Willow House now offers online ordering so I am working on driving traffic to my online stores mainly through my FB business page. We still do Home and virtual parties as well and recently added a second division – Jewelry by Sara Blaine – also available online and through Home parties. Sara lives in Atlanta too! Looking forward to connecting!

  • Hi Everyone!  I grew up in Columbus Ohio and was transferred to Brunswick GA in 1986.  I had managed offices, worked for a court appointed receiver, worked for a petroleum company, worked for Coca-Cola, sold real estate and applied for a job as an Innkeeper with Knights Inn a Division of Cardinal Industries.  I opened new Inns in Pittsburgh and Washington PA before being transferred to the South.  Major culture shock!  I managed the Knights Inn in Brunswick and opened one in Savannah and another in Pooler.  I went to Jacksonville, thought I had the perfect job…ever been there?  Within 6 months I was unemployed.  Came back to Brunswick to what is now the Embassy Suites as the Director of Sales & Marketing and Assistant Manager.  I did what I was supposed to do fill the hotel and they decided to cut staffing.  I had been planning tours for tour buses staying at the hotel and decided that I could do that on my own.  20 years later I’m still at it.  I am what is called a Receptive Operator – planning tours including hotels, dinners, sightseeing and attractions.  I have approximately 16 Tour Directors who work for me in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee.  I also plan tours in other parts of the country, wherever my clients want to go.  I have really gotten into the social networking and spend roughly 2-3 hours daily on it.  I read everything I can get my hands on relating to it and am starting to put into play some of the things I have read.  I have become quite the student and love it!  Something new and different is always a challenge to me.       After reading all that everyone does I think I can learn allot from all of you and am willing to share the things I know.  This group sounds wonderful!   Love the prospects of people with the same interest besides “work”.  Look forward to talking with all of you.  I’m in the Atlanta area frequently when I have groups – perhaps those of us there could meet for coffee.  Til later….

  • Hi everyone,After being laid off 3 years ago, I moved to Lexington, SC to be near my son and granddaughter. After being laid off again and securing another full time position only to be reduced to part-time a few months later, I am now working hard to grow my business and looking forward to the day that I resign my j-o-b!

I am using my publicrelations/marketing background to help small business owners market themselves and their business using social media.

I also lived in Columbus, GA (not too far from Atlanta!) for a few years.

Looking forward to networking with like-minded people in my region.

  • Bumping up all the regional forums again… so new members can see them and sign in, too. Happy networking!

  • I was born in Washington DC, raised in Ohio, lived outside the US for 28 years and finally landed in FL. Calling Florida home now, but some people may see me as a visitor.

  • I am originally from Eufaula, Al.  The historical town with tree-lined streets & a large lake that you go through if you are traveling from Atlanta to Panama City.  Our historical district was filmed for the movie, “Sweet Home Alabama.”  I have been living in Phenix City, AL for 9 years.  Phenix City is across the river from Columbus GA, the 3rd largest city in the state of GA & home to Aflac Ins.  I am President & owner of Fort Benning Area Guide, LLC, a community support system for the families of Fort Benning.  Military families & civilians ask questions on my facebook page & others respond.

**Soon, we will have Whitewater Rafting available on the Chattahoochee River between Phenix City & Columbus.
**Callaway Gardens is a great place to visit (between Atlanta & Columbus).

Please check out this lip dub video from an area HS.  I got to help the teacher recruit “local celebrities.”  It was a great way to give back.
