    Thanks in advance.  Jane

  • @janecook I’m not going to win a popularity contest with this comment but I’m going to make it anyway

    1) Why does it matter to you if you can claim the name ‘Jane-Cook-The-Social-Media-Specialist-NewMediacy today or in a few days?

I don’t think you should worry about somebody claiming the same name.

    Jorgen

ps. I really want to suggest that you find another name. Yours is very long and almost impossible to remember.

  • Hi Jorgen,

No need to remember the entire page name.  Do a search in FB and look for Jane Cook social media and it pops up.  Search for Newmediacy and it comes up – look for Jane Cook as a name by itself and there are dozens of Jane Cooks.

A FB user name is preferable because the URL is much shorter than the one initially assigned.   A page must have 25 likes in order to be eligible for a short URL

  • Hey @janecook !

Regarding what @jorgenpoulsen said I think he is partially right and here it is why: most users interact with your content on Facebook through their own timeline or ticker. Very few will actually come to your page. So not having a vanity URL is not that much of a problem from this point of view.

However, I think Jorgen is also partially wrong. The main reason is that a vanity URL will help your SEO. Also, a vanity URL can help improve trust.

This being said, I must agree that the name is too long. I understand there are  SEO and other reasons. But if you could find a shorter URL I think it would be even better. Also, my advise, install an about tab. It will help with (not only) SEO.

    Have a great day!

PS I checked your Facebook page and liked it. I think you have some useful content for me, so I gave you a “Like”. Only one more to go :)

  • @gabriel  @janecook

lol another misunderstanding. I never said a vanity URL is not good. IT IS.

I asked why she didn’t just wait a few days until she got 25 likes naturally.

@jane I did the searched that you suggested and you didn’t come up in a single one. Why make it harder for people. Chose a vanity URL people can remember. People move on REALLY FAST if they can get instant gratification.

  • LOL @jorgenpoulsen yes, another misunderstanding. But not of your fault, but mine. I understood what you said about the vanity URL but did not express my self that clear. I think you are right in not having to rush those 25 likes, but I was just thinking of reasons why someone might do it.

  • @janecook @jorgenpoulsen @gabriel

Just as an FYI, I went to facebook in order to check out her page, and guess what….She has her 25 Likes. :-)

BTW Jane, I LOVE the hand-holding/world graphic!

  • @janecook I almost forgot… While on your page I saw a nice idea. I mean using social media icons as the main pictures (are they called that?) for your page. One suggestion, if you don’t mind. How about putting in each picture’s comment a link to your account on that social media channel, so people can just connect with you more easily?

  • @janecook  @gabriel  @warrenveach  congratulations Jane

  • Hi Jane,

Have ‘liked’ your page, and also like it, appreciate if you could reciprocate.

    Thanks

  • Even though you have enough ‘likes’ I liked your page @janecook  . Lots of personality and good info there! Love your logo too.

As another person with a long fan page name, it’d be great if you wanted to ‘like’ my page too! :-)http://www.facebook.com/WeDoSocialMediaMarketingForYou

    Thanks,
    Marlene

  • Thanks for the advice everyone.  I like Gabriel’s suggestion about linking the icons appearing as main pics to the sm sites.  Need to figure out how to do that. Anyone know?
