My Facebook Page is listed as a place, how do I change it to a page (14 posts)

Topic tags: categorization, page, Place
  • I was looking at my page http://www.facebook.com/newpueblo from a profile account I manage to see what she would see. I noticed it came up as a place. Is there a way to convert it to a page without having to start over?
    Thanks

  • @kathyweir I believe the “Place” works the same way as the “Page” but allows check-ins. I was having the same issue and the page started working as both a place and page combination. You could try removing the address portion? I didn’t have issue with ours being a place, but maybe someone will be able to help you.

It does work the same as a page, but when you search the drop down screen, places are separate from pages. We do have a physical location but I think I will try the deletion of the address to see if it converts. It would be a learning experience too. Thanks for your suggestion and also for deleting the thread with the infographic.

  • I think if you switch the Category from Local Business that can also change how it shows up, @kathyweir

  • @alexandrabriggs  I am going to experiment with it on Sunday. Will let you know if it changes the results. Thanks for the suggestions.

  • @alexandrabriggs

I made some adjustments today, I am assuming it can take 24 hours or more to change. See what happens. Will keep you posted.

  • @alexandrabriggs nothing I did yesterday worked. Just went into the account and removed the zip code too and the option came up to block check ins. Now it’s wait and see if this solves it. It can take several hours. This will be a good learning lesson in case I have a client with the same issue. I know I had a page and a place name before I converted the content to social media only. It must have been set up wrong from the beginning. This is too much for my brain this time of night :)

  • @alexandrabriggs  YEAH VICTORY!!! Thanks for your suggestions. I think what did it was when I elected it was okay not to have check-ins. Now I am a happy camper!!!! The last change just took awhile to kick in. Appreciate your input and now I know the cure if I have someone with the problem. Have a great rest of the week.

  • I have the same problem on my site; and want to change it from a place to a page.   I will try this technique, but Kathy, what do you mean by “check ins?”

Any other tips before I attempt?

  • @hendione  Lisa if you have a physical location listed, when people come to your building they can check in on Facebook or FourSquare. I had to remove our physical address and I got a pop-up screen about check-ins, responded I didn’t want them and within a few hours Facebook had changed it to a page. Let me know if you need any additional help.

    Kathy

  • Thanks so much Kathy!  I’ve been trying to do that for a month!  The FB help forum has this question posted on it too!  No answers!

The next bug on my list is why our company page cannot “like” anything!  But that is another topic….Thank you again!

  • In order for your company to like a page @hendione you need to be on the page as the page, not as your profile. Once you switch to the page you should be able to like other pages. If it is a page you have liked on your profile, you will also be able to tag it in status updates on your page. Hope this makes sense to you.

  • But if you are an administrator for a company page, (not my company, but where I work), how do you switch off that function?

I can go in for my personal account and like someone, but I want the company to be able to like other company pages.

    Does that make sense?

  • Click on the home button on your personal page. You will see a drop down menu with the names of the pages you admin, click on the page and you will be the page. When you want to go back to home and click on your name in the drop down menu.
