Moderating Comments on Facebook Comment Box (4 posts)

  • Hello All!

    Great forum, first time posting!

I’m trying to implement a FB Comment box on our website at 92Y.org. I am able to implement a FB comment box, seen here: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/comments/. I have yet been successful in implementing a FB comment box that has moderated comments, seen here: https://developers.facebook.com/blog/post/472 (moderated = comments wont be posted until we approve them.)

I’m not sure if I have misunderstood or erroneously implemented the code.

Has anyone implemented a moderated FB comment box on their website?

Thank you for your time and assistance!

    Welcome Paolo!

    Here’s what they say:

The updated Comments Box provides moderation tools that were created based on developer feedback. Admins can choose to make the default for new comments entered either “visible to everyone” or “has limited visibility” on the site (i.e., the comment is only visible to the commenter and their friends), to help mitigate irrelevant content.

In addition to changing the visibility of a comment, admins can also blacklist words and ban users. If a new comment is published from a banned user or contains a blacklisted word, this comment will automatically have limited visibility.

The key is that moderation does not equal no comments seen until you act.

I implemented the comment box here: http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/launch/

Major issue is ZERO notification.  You need to constantly check the page.

I would suggest you implement DISQUS instead

  • Thanks for your response Michael.

Disqus is a good idea, though we were really hoping to use FB, for social sharing. Regards to FB, you can see in the image I included that the comment box does seem to allow moderation before the comment is posted. Per FB below, if you leave moderation on, but the blacklist empty, every comment will go through moderation, requiring, I believe, you to approve the comment first, in the moderation dashboard. “Let me approve each comment before it appears” os what it says. http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/6800/screenshot20120809at950.jpg
