Milestones on New Facebook Timeline (8 posts)

Topic tags: Milestones, timelines
  • For those of you that have made the switch over to Timeline: what are you thoughts/issues/concerns?
Has anyone made use of posting “Milestones” to the business page? I work with Education programs and plan to add Milestones for Pinnings, Graduations, New Cohorts, etc. but I am curious what others might do. Do you think having the milestones would really matter if they aren’t “pinned” to the top?

  • @alexandrabriggs

Overall, I think Timeline is great for fan pages. The added cover photo is visually pleasing and some of the new features are pretty cool.  My company, as we find the time, is adding more and more important milestones to your page.  For people who are genuinely interested in the history of your company or want to know the story will click through to see the milestones.

Pins should be used for timely things.  There is a reason pins only last 7 days.  They want you to highlight something while its relevant and move on.  If it werent like this, then it would just be a static page.  Milestones should be used.  I think it will work great with your education programs.

Timeline is great for businesses and fan pages! However, for my personal page, I dislike the two column system. I might get use to that over time though.

    I hope this was helpful.

  • I think the milestones feature is particularly useful for mapping out progress and celebrating every award / feature / “milestone” your business has made.

You have to ADD a year if you existed before Facebook of course (most of us did of course) but I think it is great feature that will mature with age like fine wine :)

I like the new APPS area – not sure why it is restricted to just 4 – one of which must be photos, I think 6 + 6 would have been better.

All in all it is a thumbs up from me!

  • I agree, @dianecossie- I would have liked to see more apps in that top row.  People can click to see the 2nd row but how many people will?

I haven’t gone back into the Milestones yet @alexandrabriggs but I imagine I’ll add some for some clients.  I just wonder how useful it will be – I don’t know if it makes sense to spend hours and hours on it.

  • Excellent question, @alexandrabriggs. Do you think that Facebook users have been so conditioned to look at the “front” page only (without scrolling back through archived updates) that they’ll bother looking at milestones?

I know the timeline thingy makes it easier to click back through time – just wondering how many people will actually do that.

  • im  trying to think of  why  my   customers  would  bother  with  digging  down into  the milestones, and  havent   felt  they would  bother…..so im not too interested in that….

….i dont think i will use the pinning,  wouldnt it   have to  be  above  the  posting?  and  that  would   take away  from  the  current  posting and   conversation  being on the   top  of  the page?  so we  will probably use it   mainly  for   when  we have our  big  events…

i am having  trouble with the  visuals  on the tabs, i was  thinking pictures  but its   so  small…now im  thinking  words…

its never  clear to me what i see as  opposed to what the   customers  see…

@alexandrabriggs good  question…there are so many issues on  this…

  • I will probably use it for launch events, but then I would probably get the same exposure posting and starring the post.

  • I haven’t used milestones yet. But it does add a new element to pages we haven’t seen before.
