Marketing your Facebook Page Fact or Myth? (8 posts)

  • It is true that when you try to reach out to your existing fans on a fanpage via a post on your own wal only 25% of them or so see that message?

How can I email or broadcast a sales pitch to every single one of them?

Is it tru that only creating an Event from that fanpage is the only way to reach every single one of them at once?

    Please offer suggestions.

  • Hi Carlos
After reading your question and I will try to explain and that’s a tough one without been spamy, with any business you need users and user engagement  in Facebook terms

Notifications on Facebook are meant to provide prominent but lightweight heads-up about interesting changes to content relevant to users. Requests from your app may trigger a notification to users who will find it relevant.

Requests are a great way to enable users to invite their friends to your application so you need to find app that suits you and your business. You can also use requests to have a user notify their friends to take a specific action in your app, such as accepting a gift or helping the user complete a quest.

There are two types of requests that can be sent from an app:

User-generated requests: These requests are confirmed by a user’s explicit action on a request dialog. These requests update the bookmark count for the recipient.

App-generated requests: These requests can be initiated and sent only to users who have authorized your app. You should use these requests to update the bookmark count to encourage a user to re-engage in the app (e.g., your friend finished her move in a game and it’s now your turn
I you go into Facebook developers there is a mountain of information that will guide you User engagement. Hope this helps

  • That is probably even a bit high, @carlosdixon when you are talking about each post.  But what I also encourage is to try and get e-mail addresses from your Fans by offering them something for free.  We do this on Social Media Examiner here:  http://www.facebook.com/smexaminer?sk=app_10442206389

There is never a guaranteed way to reach people.  You can even go to a person’s profile and see if they allow you to Message them – but I don’t recommend that unless you have something really go to share with them because you can be banned if you message too many people.

  • @carlosdixon Yes it is true. Partly because they are not all online at the time the item rolls through their news feed. And if they only liked your page, but never commented or engaged, your items may not be shown in their news feed at all – Facebook uses its edgerank system to decide what does and does not make it ‘in’.

  • ive just  changed  to posting in the evening  rather  than in the morning ,even tho  morning is   easier  for me….and  have  gotten a lot more interaction…. so i  think   abigails  point is  very  relevant to my  experience…sometimes i even  reshare a  morning  post to get  the  evening  people….

  • This may be something that others (such as Mari Smith) have mentioned / suggested, but the other day I was thinking …  Why not generate a Facebook ad targeting just your own fans, and wording it in such a way that they’re not likely to actually click the ad (and leave you paying the bill) but instead be inspired to actually go to your Facebook page and take action there.

Anyone know if this has yet been tried, and if so, if the page saw good (but not costly) results?

  • @hjelliott Yes. Some pages do pay for ads, even expecting to pay for clicks, to get their own fans to re-engage, especially after time like the holidays, when fans might have dropped away. It depends on the business and how much engagement is worth to it.

  • When I found out about this issue, I added this to the top of our INFO section and posted it on our page.  I will probably post it every once in a while so that it remains on the wall ~ especially before beginning a ‘fan drive.’

****NOTE ABOUT SEEING OUR POSTS: Facebook’s News Feed decides whether it thinks you want to see posts from pages. The sad part is that probably 75% of our fans will not see the short term specials we post or be able to add their input to our discussions (adding a new beer flavor, for instance). If you’d like to be ‘in the know’ on our page you can something that will help our posts show up in your newsfeed: COMMENT on a post. Look at our current wall and find posts that interest you, then comment ~ simple, huh? ******
