Managing State Parks and affiliates (10 posts)

  • I picked up a new account this week, http://www.facebook.com/friendsofkartchner. They have a decent fan base and I would like to take them to a higher level. Has anyone worked with these pages and what have you found to be the most engaging post? We have made a major improvement in engagement in just a few days, but I would like to make it even better. This is one of our most spectacular state parks and this group helps support it since our state, like so many others, have had cutbacks.
    Thanks

  • Hi @kathyweir!
    I would love to hear what others say about this. I would say they sure have an advantage with the scenes and photos. Perhaps contests involving people uploading their photos to the page and a vote for the best. State Parks attract serious photo hobbyists so might get some good engagement with a tactic like that.
    Be well, Michelle!

  • michellefontaine  Thanks Michelle. Unfortunately this is one of the state parks where photography is limited. I am checking to see if anyone  can even post  pictures to the page.

  • Goodness, I’ve never heard of such a thing! State Parks are for enjoyment of people and photography of nature is so undestructive. Guess they think differently over in the ‘West’!

  • I think you can photograph in the park, but not the cave.

  • I see, could be because of the damage caused by flash. I think I heard that when we went through the caverns in Arizona. So, interesting stories, blogging about the history, people’s thoughts about the caves. Plan an editorial calendar and brainstorm about what can be posted. Perhaps some kind of quiz about the caves after all these tidbits are presented. Winner of the quiz gets free passes or something..special pass into the cave..some neat thing.

  • i would   highlight more pictures…makes a  more   graphic  page….  and  really look into the picture  ideas..there  must  be a lot  just  from their  brochures and other  advertizing…..

    ..even   familes having fun  outside the entrances  might  be  good….  we  are  tagging    folks  from  different states, with  their permission….

    on  the  educational side, maybe  a  weekly post on the   animal life in the caves  if  there is any….

    i think   pictures   should be   tops on  your list…  and how about interviews  with   little  kids about what they liked the  best about the   caverns…

    @kathyweir

  • Ann has some great ideas; you could also ask a question of the week, such as “Anyone visit from Kansas this week?”…”What was your favorite part of the tour”…”What surprised you the most about your visit?”

    Since photography is limited, could you have the group host an art corner at the visitor’s center, and have kids color in drawings of the caverns? That would give you some images to post, just credit “Kyle (8 years old) from Dallas” so you’re not violating privacy…

  • @reneestpeter For some reason I missed your posting. Good idea. Thanks

  • @kathyweir

    Why don’t you go for an alternative and you chose a really creative illustration that can be inviting and would attract a different audience that you usually won;t attract by posting only photos.
