Making an @ reference for a page or person (6 posts)

  • On one of the pages I administer, I was giving out some page “love” today to the pages that liked the page.  I was able to type the @ symbol and the name for a large number of the pages but was unable to do so for others.  In a few of the cases I noticed ?ref=ts after what appeared to be their vanity URL.  In a couple of others, I noticed that they did not have a vanity URL.  What determines whether you can use the @ reference for the page and get the direct link to the page without having to include the entire FB URL?

I would love to know the answer to this too, Dee, as I’ve noticed the same thing. I wonder if it may have something to do with whether the person/brand has liked your page. In the case of people who have already liked my page, when I insert the @ and then start typing their page name, it consistently inserts the correct URL to their page.

  • @laurachristianson All of the pages that I was trying to list were fans of my page, but they are the reason why I was prompted to ask this question.  I thought it had something to do with whether or not they had a vanity URL or not.

  • I have not been able to figure out rhyme or reason to this question  @deereinhardt and  @laurachristianson – it is just very flaky.  Sometimes I can tag whether or not I like the Page, sometimes even if I’m an admin and like the page I can’t take that page from another one I’m the admin of.  Sometimes I refresh and log out and come back in and I can tag!  I just chalk it up to Facebook flakiness.

  • I agree,  @andrea-vahl. Maybe we should mass-produce 800 million mouse pads or t-shirts that say, “I blame it on Facebook flakiness.”  We could make billions!

  • @andrea-vahl I’ve had the same problem with one of my OWN PAGES! It is very frustrating. If I can’t tag, for whatever reason, I just put in the URL instead. Facebook can be so glitchy!
