Looking for advice on promoting a Facebook page (11 posts)

  • I don’t have a lot of experience in using Facebook for business though now that I’m starting to work as a social media manager I’m trying to learn as much as I can about it.

I’m currently working for one client for whom I built a Facebook page but I’m now having trouble trying to figure out how to get people to read and Like it. My client doesn’t have a personal Facebook page, so I don’t have anyone already connected to her to invite and she doesn’t want to purchase any advertising. I’ve tried liking other pages and joining and commenting on other groups but it doesn’t seem to have brought anyone over to my client’s page. Am I doing something wrong? Can anyone offer suggestions as to how I can promote this page and get people to read it?

Here is a link to the page: https://www.facebook.com/IsraelHealthConsulting

    Thanks for your help.

  • If you don’t have any friends on FB or if they don’t already have a personal profile to invite others, you will need to start networking on other platforms or FB groups. Look for groups that are local to her business and join the conversation. Try Linkedin, Twitter, etc.

  • @simchalazarus Hi Simcha,

Although this is the question that almost all business owners and marketers face, the answer is simple yet hard! Implementations will be time consuming, long, and will have a slow but steady effect

-> First of all, determine your audience, decide what age, gender, geographic and product/service interest of your audience are. Then focus on getting audience based on these criteria. Remember, if you have 5000 fans but that doesn’t include interested/genuine people, its like a page having 0 fan. And if you have 100 genuine, interested fans who can be your prospectus, its like having thousands of fans!
-> Post informative, knowledge sharing, tips and tricks, HowTos, and other useful resources related to your business, products or services. Don’t always post marketing/promotional posts.
-> Try to design and post your own images/graphics with useful resources for your prospectus, images will make better impression than text only content. Imagine, if you are visiting a page, what you notice first? A text post or a  post with images?

-> Always follow Rule of Three Rs : Be Relative : Post content related to your business/industry,Be Regular : Post regular content, not like one post today then after a week!,Be Responsive: Always stay in touch with your fans, respond to them asap. Even if you found any negative comment or post from your fan, reply and response.

  • Health pages can be difficult to grow, @simchalazarus but  @moinshaikh gives some great tips!

I think it’s also challenging that you are starting completely from scratch – she doesn’t have an existing network?  Clients, friends, anyone who can get the page started with some Likes?  Does she have a list of e-mail contacts?  Is she in any LinkedIn Groups?  I see that you have tweeted out the Facebook Page – you may want to do that more regularly and work on building up Twitter first.  Twitter can be easier to build because you can follow more people easily.  But I like Facebook for richer conversations.

Keep commenting on local Israel Pages because that does take time to grow organically.  But it’s also hard to start when they don’t have a warm market to build from.  Your posts look good and make sure you are posting at least once a day.  Good luck!

  • Thanks for the advice everyone. There are some very helpful tips here that I’ll have to try. I have to say that it’s a relief to hear that what I’m trying to do is as challenging as it feels to me and that I do seem to be on the right path.

@andrea-vahl  I had built Linkedin and Twitter accounts for my client but I haven’t been trying to send the contacts from these sites to her Facebook page but rather to her website. I see Facebook as a way to reach and interact with people who don’t spend time on Twitter or Linkedin (if I could only figure out how to find them) and so I haven’t been trying too hard to get people from one platform to visit the other. It would be great if I could get her to provide me with the email addresses of her clients and other contacts but it hasn’t happened yet.

  • I am have the same problem with my client’s Facebook Business Page (https://www.facebook.com/VMCLandscape) It is a commercial landscaping company and I am not sure how I can increase their Facebook (and Linkedin) followers.

Like @andrea-vahl I am using social media to send traffic to their website.

  • Hi, @simchalazarus  You are not alone. Most people find themselves in that same situation.

I would say that you should guide your client in how to use her comments. If they are not interesting enough, people will not want to come to the page. Or if they are not conversational, people will not care or notice.  That page will be invisible on the newsfeeds.  Here is an article I wrote on a process that works.  I have seen health pages in a much smaller niche,  horse nutrition, find success by focusing on the comments they are sharing, and how they interact with other people.  Here is an article that I use to show my fans how to use their comments.

How to Use Your Comments to Attract Fans and Sell What You Have to Offer

Feel free to share it with your client so she has a guide.

  • This is a great thread and one I’m sure most business owners need to brush up on.

In support of the great comments above if you execute many of those techniques, ie. cross pollinate prospect building with twitter and linked in to build targeted lists and then follow up with relevant posts on their facebook pages with further techniques that get your posts posted on their friends pages in a non spamy way – this will lead to people clicking through to your facebook page. Then you have have to have something for these people to like you or interact. There are some great custom tab options applicable to many businesses that engage visitors. Check other similar health related fan pages and get a sense for what is working for them.

One possibility is the creation of sweepstakes, user-generated contests, product giveaways, favorite picks, trivia and many other options leading to attracting visitors virally. If you have questions about these items I can be of further assistance.

  • @moinshaikhLove the post with the   8 copy paste ready fan page tricks Great advise :) I notice I get the most activity on my client’s pages when I post animal pics or inspirational sayings.  I try to find one that says “like” or “share” if…Seems kinda silly sometimes, but it works.

  • @juliechaffee Thanks! Yes of course when we post something like images, quotes or any call to action images, we are more sure to get higher rate of engagement. Good work, keep it up!

  • @simchalazarus

A few suggestions for your page:

    • Try using a logo or something similar for the profile pic (instead of a headshot).

    • See if Aviva will pay for a professional photo shoot (or just a really good quality shot) and use it in the cover photo of the page – this helps increase perception of confidence and authority in the niche.

    • Add a bit more information about the business in the about section.

    • Post a humorous image (that relates to your niche) now and then (humerous images have a high re-post or share rate than many others).

    • Never forget existing clients/customers – print out a brochure/flyer with the facebook address and a special offer or draw prize for people that “like” the page before a certain date. Give it to clients/customers before they leave their appointments.

I have post on my blog regarding the types of posts to encourage social engagement (very similar to the one that @moinshaikh posted above) that can be found here.
