No, there is no way for a tool to get in and search posts that aren’t made public,
@rich-brooks  I typically use the basic http://www.facebook.com/search and filter by Public Posts on the side bar.  Make sure you click “see more results” at the bottom when you start the search.

Other tools that do the same thing but makes it a bit easier are: http://fbsearch.us/  or http://www.fbinstant.net/

But again, these are searching just public posts and sometimes it’s surprising what you find from those!
