Let’s Help with Critquing Each Other’s Timeline Pages (8 posts)

  • First:  This is not a “Like” my page thread!  I try to keep my pages very targeted geographically and to golfers ~ I’m not looking for new “Likes.”

However, with the Timeline being brand new, it’s really hard to figure out just what to do with it.  I made a cover photo that fits what we’re currently doing, I added a couple of milestones (obviously since we’ve been around for 52 years, I have tons more there to add), and I hid a bunch of posts from the timeline because it’s just soooooooooooo busy.

So far, I’ve hidden tons of stuff, and if you look down into the 2011 posts, you can see that I also tried starring everything that was left after hiding to see if it looked better to have all posts wide on the wall.

The new timeline suggestions from Facebook and the pages they’ve highlighted as leaders seem to encourage us to hide the majority of stuff from our timelines.  Help, please?

The one page I took into the Timeline format so far is Lilac’s Page ~ I’d really appreciate any thoughts you have.  If you’re looking for suggestions, feel free to post your own Timeline Page and I’ll (and others, I’m sure) will return the favor.

    Thanks folks!

  • I’m struggling with image size for my business Page. Yours looks terrific, what size are the images you used for collage?

  • @prsanibel  ~ I actually created them in a separate file that was 200X250 (which includes the white ‘edges’ of the polaroid) but they all had to be shrunk when I moved them into my collage.  I’d guess that they’re closer to 150X200 after I resized.

Thanks for the thumbs up ~ the page in general is making me kind of crazy :)

  • @dedimason  I like you cover photo too, very clever.

  • I think it looks great!

I just switched mine over – Derby City Comic Con

    I’m open to feedback, too!

  • Very nice! I’ll have to play with the template I downloaded from Facebook Timeline Cover: 40 (Really) Creative Examples. There are some really great examples of creativity here.

I’m sorry I can’t remember the name of the person who originally posted this link. I’m only a member of one SME Club but I’m getting so many emails I have trouble keeping up.

So, thank you very much to whomever originally posted the link!

  • @dianebianchi ~ thanks.  Had to find a way to promote league and outing bookings without upsetting Facebook’s guidelines.  Finally decided on some fun pics from last year with one pic just holding a bit of text stating that we’re booking for this year.  Now I just have to figure out what I’m doing for the other 2 courses without making them all look alike.

@ericbanister ~ Yours works together better than my cover and profile pic do . . . I’m still not happy with my profile pic, but man ~ I had to cut nearly our entire name out to make it legible when it shrinks to 30X30!  The ‘side by side’ format of the timeline doesn’t bother me on your page like it did on mine, either . . .

@daveholmes ~ I don’t know who originally posted that link, but I did use that template to test and see before I uploaded.

  • OK ~ All 3 of our course pages are converted.  I still can’t figure out which posts I should hide and which I should highlight.  That’s what I’m looking for suggestions with on my pages.

Lilac Golf Course (which was the original one in the first post of this thread)
    Thorne Hills Golf Course
    Old Town Golf and Sportland

On the Lilac Page . . . I DO NOT like the way that profile pic looks.  Suggestions appreciated ~ the blue bugs me.

All pages . . . what do I keep and what do I toss in the way of posts?
