Klout – Big Deal or Not? (10 posts)

Topic tags: klout
  • For a number of months I’ve been reading about Klout, and I understand the premise but have heard a few contradictions about it usefulness. I would like to ask for a few opinions.

What do you think about it? Do you use it? Has it benefited you as a metric?

    Thanks,
    Don

  • I think Klout is much less respected these days than it was a while ago. Whether or not you register you may already have a klout score which will be visible to your twitter followers who use hootsuite.

Lately I’ve noticed sometimes a month-old twitter spam accounts with zero followers and 100 spam link tweets may have a klout score of 10 while my mom’s year old twitter account with 180 followers and hundereds of legit updates has a klout score of 12.

This and the recent downgrading of many people’s long-standing klout scores (including my own) without explanation has led to disenchantment with klout.

  • Hi Don,

Please listen to this conversation: 54 minuteshttp://socialmediatoday.com/audio-archive-defining-building-online-influence

This will give you a better understanding of Klout and where they are heading.

There is a lot more to learn from Klout than just what your score is.

    Very good and informative recording.

  • This article is good too. http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/is-klout-a-good-judge-of-your-social-media-influence/

  • @linda @darrellellens @linda

Linda, thanks for your opinion – I’ve gotten a lot of feedback similar to yours.

Darrell – I will definitely take some time in the next few days to listen in. There is always two sides to every coin.

Anymore experiences or opinions out there?

  • @donpurdum I was a Klout user for awhile but got upset when they started pulling in my Facebook friends (and I promptly disconnected the two accounts). Of course, Klout got in major trouble for the Facebook scraping because the company had children listed.

My personal fave is My Web Career. Not sure of their metrics however.

  • @kc_kreative

I haven’t heard of My Web Career. I’ll have to check it out. Thanks for sharing!

  • Here is a little more about it:MyWebCareer is the free service that helps you to discover, evaluate, and manage online data that may help your career prospects.
Almost everything you do on the Internet can be traced back to you and nearly everyone has left some online footprint(s). These online footprints can include references to you on corporate websites, blog posts, press releases, and social or business network profiles…

Collectively, career-specific data on these footprints make up your Professional Online Brand…

We use sophisticated link analysis, visualization, and semantics technologies to enable you to quickly evaluate and explore data that may relate to you. Our patent-pending Career Score allows you to easily assess your Professional Online Brand and stay on top of any changes to it with our monthly monitoring service.

  • @donpurdum I do see some points where klout can be beneficial but i think I wont worry about it that much as i have other social media preferences right now.

  • @kc_kreative – that is really cool and very interesting.

@valeriejoydeveza- Valerie, I understand. Not sure I want to waste my time on it either.
