  • Would like to send a message to all of my friends on Facebook (1200 friends) and can only see one way of doing so = Create a new message and start typing everyone’s names from my friends list into the ‘to’ field.

I don’t have any groups set up to group message to and don’t really want to…

    Thank you!

  • Yea there is a way with a firefox extension (think its firefox) that allows you to send a message to all of your friends.

Let me suss out the name of the ebook that shows you step by step.

  • HI again, ok i found it, but I’m unsure if we are allowed to post links to products for sale…..it’s not mine but I have read it and it does reveal how to do this.

I will message you and if we are allowed to post I’ll post for the benefits of others.

    Cheers

    Scott

  • I don’t know how old that e-book is, @scottlinklater but I’ve heard that those plugins don’t work anymore to select all friends.  There also used to be a script that you could add into your browser but I did try that and it didn’t work.  Do you know how old the e-book is?

  • @scottlinklater @andrea-vahl

    Thank you for your replies.

I have a java script which selects all friends and am already using this successfully to invite friends to ‘like’ pages etc.

But I cannot find an option in the messaging window to select all friends. Does this make sense?

The only quick way I have found is to create a group, add everyone to that group in my friends list, then ‘message all’ which is a bit spammy and unprofessional.

    Thanks.

  • I don’t know of a way around this either, @sheridanmills  You used to be able to send messages to an entire Facebook list but that feature is gone.  I think Facebook intentionally took these features away because it lead to widespread Facebook spam messages.

  • To the best of my knowledge as of this morning at 8:00 a.m. ( and who knows if Facebook has changed it since then), there is a script to use for inviting friends to like a page and to invite to events, however, the script does not work in the messaging function as it once did.  Facebook removed that function for good reason as @andrea-vahl suggested.  Personally, I would not recommend the group adding function as this is very irritating to many and will not serve your reputation well.  Just my 2 cents!  Dave

  • OK, let me ask another question along this line…

As i have added friends on facebook, I have segmented them into lists (real estate, mortgage, insurance, etc.).

Can those individual lists be sent an email?

If so, I don’t seem to be able to figure out how. If not, what purpose do the lists serve?

  • @andrea-vahl @davejackson6 @warrenveach

Yep so it seems that the answer is you can’t do it. The group messaging part.

I understand the spammy part and am not going to add my friends to a list or group as I agree it is annoying. I often waste time removing myself from the guzillions of groups people have added me to and keep popping up in my notifications.

Warren, not sure about that one sorry but I would be guessing that lists act the same as groups? Just more segmented/specific as you say? Sorry.

  • @warrenveach.Warren,Facebook lists are terrific for segmenting your friends the way you have mentioned. Then on your home page, a custom news feed is created for each list you’ve created. I especially like it for personal lists I’ve made for my family members, close friends, and work colleagues so that they do not get lost in my main news feed. Creating lists are never done for the purpose of sending bulk messaging. Others may have their reasons for creating lists as well. Also, I have learned not to get too comfortable with any of Facebook’s functions as they could disappear at a moment’s notice!Dave

  • Hi Sheridan,

May I ask why you want to do this? Depending on the reasoning (not judging whatsoever though), it may not be advisable regardless of whether you have the ability or not… Most people find ‘mass messaging’ spammy and impersonal, plus they get frustrated if others they do not know end up with their profile information.

Hope that is helpful feedback and not unwarranted. =)

    @sheridanmills

  • Sorry for the delay in getting back @andrea-vahl

The report I have on this is not very old but who knows, things change pretty fast. I think i got it about 3 months ago but it may have been old information????
