Suggestion — Whatever browser you use (I use Chrome as my default) you should have a configure-able toolbar of favorites where you keep links to sites you visit often.
On mine I have only the favicon showing so I can get 30 to 60 (depending on which computer I’m using) showing at any given time. In that toolbar I have a section for social media — FB, twitter, G+, SoftCity, Pinterest, Ryze (a few more) and the SME Clubs. When I make the SM rounds (which can be several times a day) I automatically go along that toolbar and since SME Clubs is there, I never miss visiting and looking around to see if I can help someone. And if I have a questions I can scan that toolbar and choose where to ask my question.
That “favorites toolbar” is a godsend – use it for your SM and you won’t need email notices.
For threads I have a folder called “SME Threads” and I put some of the conversation threads in that folder as favorites so I can go back to them to find links, instructions, etc.
When I am here I check the “Notifications” for all the mentions and etc. then peruse the clubs – I spend most of my time in the “Small Business” and some time in the “Blogging” and rarely look at this one. But I do every now and then.
So that’s my suggestion – get organized and you won’t miss anything by not having notices in your email.
In fact, I have all those emails filtered into a folder to keep my email clean for client communication.
