Is something wrong with Social Media Examiner or my settings (32 posts)

Topic tags: Technical Help
  • Good evening,I am not receiving e-mails anymore of new topics from any of the clubs I’m in.  Last message I receive was a test from Michael Stelzner. Other than that, I do receive friend requests.  Did something happen or did I mess up something on my side (even though I haven’t changed any settings)?

    Thanks for anyone’s help. :)

  • If you haven’t already done so, you may want to check your spam folder.  I know that it has happened to me on some of my Google accounts, that if I haven’t opened an email from a particular address for awhile, say a month or two, then it begins to get routed to spam, especially among emails that come in from autoresponders, which SME email would certainly be.

If they haven’t gone to your spam folder, just sign up again.  The test mail from Michael may have been from setting up a new email autoresponder group, which I’ve had to do with Aweber  in the past.

    Hope this has been helpful.

  • @mchillemi @joncardwell We did have to disable the group e-mail feature in the Clubs.  I know a lot of people liked it but it was really slowing the whole site down to the point where it was taking 20 seconds for a post to get posted.  I will check and see if they have an estimate if that will be up and working again because I know a lot of people did like the daily digests and follow this thread options!

  • @andrea-vahl  thanks Andrea.  I knew there was some work going on awhile back but I was away for awhile and thought was resolved. During my absence I lost several thousand emails and had to sign up for many of my feeds all over again.

    Appreciate the intel.

    thanks again.

  • I’m was wondering this myself… I had stopped receiving e-mails about a week ago, I enjoyed them alot coming into my inbox, I can see how it can slow things down though.   @mchillemi @andrea-vahl

  • @andrea-vahl, I can understand your reasoning but switching off the notifications means for me:

Out of sight, out of mind. I am hardly in the clubs anymore because I simply don’t think of it. We are all busy and rarely have moments where we think “Hm, I have a free hour. How can I fill it? Well, let’s go and check out the SME club!”

Headlines of topics don’t always tell me if the content is relevant for me, if I can contribute or learn something from it. So I have to go to the individual clubs, sort the topics, check each and every new post and find out if it’s for me or not. This takes me far too long, and takes definitely more time than the 20 secs for uploading an answer.

I cannot follow topics anymore. So this would mean, if I’m interested in a conversation but haven’t contributed, I have to go back again and again to see if there’s something new.

For me personally, this is not doable. It’s really a shame because I think the clubs are a truly useful resource and many great people helped make it so useful. I hope you can fix the issue somehow and we get the notifications back.

  • This is like the best group/club I am involved in.  Everyone is AMAZING. THANK YOU!!! @andrea-vahl @joncardwell

  • Hiya Folks

Suggestion — Whatever browser you use (I use Chrome as my default) you should have a configure-able toolbar of favorites where you keep links to sites you visit often.

On mine I have only the favicon showing so I can get 30 to 60 (depending on which computer I’m using) showing at any given time.  In that toolbar I have a section for social media — FB, twitter, G+, SoftCity, Pinterest, Ryze (a few more) and the SME Clubs.  When I make the SM rounds (which can be several times a day) I automatically go along that toolbar and since SME Clubs is there, I never miss visiting and looking around to see if I can help someone.  And if I have a questions I can scan that toolbar and choose where to ask my question.

That “favorites toolbar” is a godsend – use it for your SM and you won’t need email notices.

For threads I have a folder called “SME Threads” and I put some of the conversation threads in that folder as favorites so I can go back to them to find links, instructions, etc.

When I am here I check the “Notifications” for all the mentions and etc. then peruse the clubs – I spend most of my time in the “Small Business” and some time in the “Blogging” and rarely look at this one.  But I do every now and then.

So that’s my suggestion – get organized and you won’t miss anything by not having notices in your email.

In fact, I have all those emails filtered into a folder to keep my email clean for client communication.

  • @tracy-peterson-champagne @supereb @mchillemi @joncardwell
I appreciate the feedback everyone!  I will find out for sure if we are going to be able to bring this feature back sometime soon.

  • @andrea-vahl I hope it comes back soon. I have been lost this week not reading all the posts. I like getting them in my email, then if there is something I am interested in or can contribute then I click thru. Like a couple others have said “Out of sight, out of mind”. ;)

  • @lorithueme  @tracy-peterson-champagne @supereb @mchillemi @joncardwell   We now have the email digest capability back!  Let me know how it works for you.

  • @andrea-vahl awesome! I’ll let you know….I sure have missed those :)

  • Thanks @andrea-vahl :) I have missed them too. They haven’t started yet but I will check my settings.

  • Not sure where the happy medium is but this site is horribly slow….I shall monitor it now I know where the problem has been coming from.

Really i understand why we need a solution to both.

Forums without email notifications = death
websites as slow as this one has been = same thing…so a solution or happy medium needs to be found coz this is way to good a group to fall away due to a bit of technology ;)

  • @scottlinklater

    Thanks!  Working on it :)

  • Thanks @mike-stelzner

TBH, it has been better the last week which may be because of the notifications as discussed in this thread but it certainly has been better!

  • Awesome, thanks @mike-stelzner

    Thanks, @andrea-vahl

  • First time after a while I rcv a notice in my mail box. It is working Thanks @andrea-vahl

  • After the one inthe morning I have not rcvd any notifications @andrea-vahl

  • When I first joined, the barrage of emails I got — thousands– made me quickly set up special forwarding to its own box. But out of sight means out of “site” to me. I tried to change it to a digest form, but for some reason that didn’t work and I never got it.

Instead, I just resolved to come here daily, use the onsite mail messaging system to communicate with members here, and visit the clubs and click on the threads I’m interested in. I often forget to click “follow thread” and sometimes it’s months later when the topic pops back up for me.

Regardless, I’ve found if I just set 10-15 minutes a day for SME browsing that that works well for me.

Bottom line… this site and the members here have made this my most beneficial and beloved home on the internet and would NOT want to go “without” for more than a day.

So for me, a daily digest that I can read would be great, but so far that’s not worked out for me. Now I like the daily habit of checking in… though I’d love it if it would automatically add me to the “follow thread” list if I’m the one who started the thread to begin with. Alas, I often forget to click the follow button and sometimes fail to catch some great posts even in my own threads.

  • Testing some new settings

  • Oh, goodie! I love new settings! Opportunity awaits!

    @mike-stelzner

  • @mike-stelzner  @andrea-vahl  woohoo! I have e-mail! :) Thank you :)

  • Yay, so glad to be “connected” again!!! Thank you :) @mike-stelzner and @andrea-vahl

  • @tracy-peterson-champagne @lorithueme  So glad it’s working again too!

  • @andrea-vahl, Yes it is working but almost too well.. I am receiving about 3-4 of each post sent to my inbox. I thought it might change on it’s but no luck. How do you think I can address this? Maybe unlink and link back up?

  • Ugh, that isn’t good @tracy-peterson-champagne  Yes, I would try the “reboot” method.  Unlink and then resubscribe.

  • @andrea-vahl tried that , no difference. The only other thing I can think is to actually leave the groups and resign up so I’ll try that, I’ll be back to tell you what happens :)

  • @andrea-vahl No such luck… still get 3-4 of every e-mail, so weird :(

  • have you tired to log out and delete your cookies? Maybe try a new browser

  • That’s a good idea @mitch-rezman – I would try that,  @tracy-peterson-champagne  If that doesn’t work, I’ll bring in the developer to see if he can see anything.

  • ok, :) I changed all my settings to no mail, then logged off. Deleted history, cookies, etc. Rebooted my pc, logged back in , changed the settings to get all mail. and still get at minimum 3 of each sometimes up to 6 ( so weird).  Aside from closing and reopening a new account I’m not sure what else to try, and would really like to try that last as I have all my history, friends etc stored in this one.  @andrea-vahl @mitch-rezman Thanks :)
