Is Facebook in danger of becoming the new network TV? (3 posts)

  • I sometimes wonder if FB is becoming so marketing intensive, that it IS the new network TV.

This could leave a lot of early adopters unhappy and looking for a less crassly commercial social home.

  • Possibly @ifenwick.  I think companies are always looking for where people are hanging out.  Even places like Pinterest have companies looking at how to participate (hopefully without being to commercial).  So I think that a place may be less commercial for awhile but anywhere there is a crowd, there will be companies looking to capture that crowd’s attention.  What do others think?

I think there are points to be made both ways. My personal friends on FB however have never complained about it being interrupted with advertising. I think that’s the key. TV has to interrupt you to get your attention. FYI, it’s also cable TV. Some of them are even worse than the networks.

As long as people can opt in to what they want without feeling it’s being forced on them, then FB won’t face the problem you present Ian.

However, I also realize it’s a major temptation for FB. There is a lot of money floating around out there for their audiences attention.

Stay tuned, we’ll see. Anyway, that’s my personal opinion.
