Is Facebook “broken on purpose” to sell promoted posts? (4 posts)

  • Fascinating article from the Ars Technia blog. I was wondering about the Reach drops + sudden addition of promoted posts myself… What are your thoughts?

  • It isn’t broken, they are using a different model than they used too. This model does affect page views, but that isn’t their concern. They want to generate money. That is what they are concerned about.

  • There are a lot of “conspiracy” theories out there, @kc_kreative  I just really believe that they are trying to figure out the monetization.  They know (or at least I hope they do) that they can’t make it a complete “pay to play” model or people will leave.  But they have to make money too.  I think they are just working on the balance right now.

  • @andrea-vahl Very true about finding the right balance. LinkedIn is an interesting comparison. They are doing well with revenue and providing for their users. Did Facebook not truly consider how it was going to make money before it went IPO? Or are the investors just more demanding because of who they are?
