If Facebook recategorizes your page to a Community Page… (15 posts)

  • I was just helping a customer design her Facebook landing page (custom facebook page).  However, when I went to Edit Page, Manage Permissions, there was NO dropdown box for setting the Default Landing Page (which is the Wall Posts for most people).  So I thought that was odd.

Then I noticed at the top of her FB page it said that Facebook recategorized her page as a Community Page (when it was set for local business / Arts as she is a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator).  This is in error of course and we are trying to contact FB, but the problem is that you can NOT set a landing page if you are set to a Community Page.

Just wanted to let you know.Heather :D

  • That is odd @blogsbyheather.  I think that Facebook doesn’t automatically do this that I’ve seen but I could be wrong.  You should be able to reset the category in the Basic Information.

  • Hi Andrea!!!
@andrea-vahlYes, but in the Basic Settings it does say Local Business and then Arts, etc.
But it’s a facebook message saying “this page has been re-categoized to a Community Page….”.
This Page has been recategorized as a Community PageCommunity Pages represent causes, topics and ideas (as opposed to official entities such as businesses, bands and public figures). This change has not affected your Page’s presence on Facebook. If you think your Page has been miscategorized, let us know.
This is not something both of my customers did on their own as they set it to local business, etc. when they setup the page.
They didn’t really notice anything different as the page still functions.  It is only now that I am trying to set a default landing page, that now they are seeing the message and realizing that I cannot set landing page.
Here is some info on Community Pages. It’s just an odd thing, but it appears FB is controlling it.http://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=151753258228443&ref_query=commu

My Page is not a Community Page, how do I remove this link?If you are the authentic representative of the Page you are an admin on, or if your Page is unrelated to the Page we have linked it to, you can request a review directly from your Page. Simply click “Fix this” next to the link that appears, and then select the appropriate option.

  • Have you tried doing the Fix this link?  @blogsbyheather  I’m assuming you probably have.  That is frustrating though!

  • @blogsbyheather can you give me the fb page link for that erroneous page?

  • @andrea-vahl  @blogsbyheather i am facing same problem. I was told to switch to Static iFrame Tab from Static FBML but nothing seem to work

  • Hi Moin!@moinshaikh

It’s not something you’ll see unless you are an administrator of the page. Then you see this at the top (from facebook).

  • Hi Andrea!Yes, me and the FB page owner both did the “let us know” or “fix this” which is just a form to fill out and send to FB.@andrea-vahl

    I know we’ll be waiting a while….sadly :(

  • @blogsbyheather thanks, but i am admin for 15 clients fb pages, and 2 of my own personal pages. And i faced same issue for one of my client page. I am still digging into help center. As soon as i come up with any solution, will put it up here. Cheers!

  • I had that issue with one of my clients pages.  We ended up having to do another page and as soon as we had more fans than on the original page, we merged pages, which brought the old page friends into the new page.  It was a pain but the only way to fix it that I could find.

  • THANK YOU for sharing that.@christinestalsonburg
I was going to create a new page but then she cant re-user her username right? I didn’t think of or have never heard of “merging” pages together.  So you have to wait for the new one to have just as many fans?

I know her issue is the username.

The page functions normally otherwise…its just the landing page so far we can’t set.  Did you find any other restrictions with Community Pages?

    Thanks!

  • @Heather Wright-Porto, if you use the exact same name in setting up a new fan page, you will be asked if you claim ownership to the duplicate page.  Once you claim the old page as yours, you will then have the option in permissions to merge the two pages.  Just know that the one with the lessor fans wil be merged into the other.

  • OK, operator error, how do I get who I am speaking to to come up highlighted?  I obviously did something wrong when I typed mine in.

  • Hi Christine!!!I will give that a try!!!!
Here is how you “mention” someone.  I found you message and to the right you see @christinestalsonburg (your tag).  So then I copy and paste it into a message like this :D
So for me its @blogsbyheather Thanks so much!!!
I may have to bug ya again if I get stuck in the merging process (LOL). That’s if she wants to do that (my client).
     Thank you!Heather :D

  • Interesting discussion. Although I have not yet come across this issue, I have learned you can create a new page with the same page name as the one you will claim as a duplicate and merging fans ( writer said friends but think that was an error). Thanks for the info.
