I messed up and need help! (16 posts)

  • I set up a profile page and started to get friends – that part was easy.  I went to a workshop at the local library and the presenter suggested I have two accounts: one for private use and one for my company.  Since I had two email addresses, I was able to do it.  On the account I set up for business, I wanted to create a page for my business but I seemed to have created a business account instead.  I lost my friends and people can’t find my business. Between the two accounts, I’m all confused.  Is there anyway I can restore my profile and correctly create a page for my company, should I delete one account and ask clients to migrate to the correct business page,  or do I have to start all over again?

    Am I making sense?

  • @laurasagan  I don’t know if this helps, but I manage all pages from my personal account.  When you set up a page using your personal account, not one will know it’s YOU managing it unless you tell your ‘likers’.  – I am not sure how you’d go about fixing the other account though.

  • @devanianjali Thank you.

  • @devanianjali Thank you.

  • @laurasagan You cannot actually set up a “personal page” as a business. A while back Facebook announced they would be deleting business accounts since business pages were set up. I run my business pages under a personal professional Facebook profile. The profile is me and then all the pages are associated under that account. I have a personal page under a personal email address that I have used since Facebook first launched (back in the “thefacebook.com” days). I do not complete any business/professional activity under that account.
Unless I have misunderstood your issue it sounds like your “business” account was removed by Facebook for not representing an individual. I recommend contacting Facebook and/or searching the help functions for how to restore the page deleted. Let us know how it goes!

Sounds like I unsuccessfully did what you are doing.  I have tried using the functions but there is no information regarding this and I have been unsuccessful contacting facebook.  Thanks, I’ll keep you posted.

  • @laurasagan Good luck! I am slightly surprised that you weren’t notified before they removed the profile! I hope it works out

  • @laurasagan  Have you been reporting the problem through the Facebook Help here:  http://www.facebook.com/help/somethings-not-working  Sometimes when you explain what you did, Facebook can restore your account and sometimes it just takes some time for Facebook to respond.  Or you may have to start from scratch.  Good luck!

  • Laura Sagan  Facebook doesn’t delete your profile, they just deactivate it. You should be able to go to the old profile and restore it and set up your page from there.

  • Hi Laura,

It sounds like it may be easier for you to create a new business page. You have to weigh the pros and cons of this. If you had a large following then I would acitvely work with facebook to get the issue fixed.  If it was a small group it may be better to start new.  If that is the case here is the link to create a new page for your business: https://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php  This will walk you through the steps.

You will then manage your business page using your personal account.  I manage multiple accounts through my personal page.  When you log into your personal page, in the upper right hand corner you will see a down arrow. Click on that arrow and it will show the pages that you are admin for.

I hope that helps! Good Luck.

Thank you all so much.  I will let you know how this all turns out.

  • @laurasagan

Good luck! It’s an adventure and everyday is a learning lesson.

    Hello all,

I deleted the business page I started by accident and started from scratch.  This really was the best solution.  I have 30 likes to my page and FB will now let me have access to insights.  You gave me the confidence to move forward.  I appreciate your suggestions.

  • @laurasagan

Congrats and thanks for letting us know how it turned out.
