How Valuable are Facebook Notes for SEO Purposes? (11 posts)

  • I’ve heard conflicting views on how worthwhile writing a Facebook note for your company page can be.

Some people seem to believe this is a necessity, while others aren’t convinced it makes any difference at all.

Has anyone had a definitive experience for good or bad with Facebook Notes and SEO?

  • Great question @ryansegovich.  One thing that I am have noticed is that Facebook Notes regularly come up in Google searches for me.  I have been meaning to do more investigation into this.
A surprising find was one time when I was doing a search my OWN Facebook note came up in the search ahead of the actual blog post that I had imported into the Note.  What have others found?

  • Great question! I cannot wait to test this and to hear what everyone thinks.

  • Which also leads to the question, how are folks using notes? Just another place to share your blog content? Or is it a place to share new content? I have been meaning to experiment more with them, will be interesting to see how they do ranking wise!

  • @andrea-vahl Piggybacking off of what Brad said, do you feel it’s better to repost blog content to Facebook via notes or by pasting in a link to a blog post as an update?

It would seem that the notes would give more in terms of SEO, but if my goal were to drive traffic to the blog, pasting a link would be for the best, right?

  • I am using the note pages as a blog for now until our website is redeveloped. I will be using a blog once our new site is up and running.

  • Yes, @ryansegovich, I do think ultimately your better SEO bang for the buck is going to be on your own website.  It may be worth posting a few key blog posts in as notes to rank higher for certain keywords in your overall SEO strategy and get people to your Facebook page.  But I wouldn’t spend too much time doing that.

  • I like that idea, Andrea.  We started with notes because we thought people would be more likely to want to stay on Facebook, but decided we really wanted traffic to our websites.  So, we just linked to our website and blog posts.  Sharing on Facebook and the blog/website won’t take that much longer.  Thanks!

  • @bradfordshimp  I use notes to put longer posts for Holiday Home availability, new listings, reviews and up-coming Cairns events.  This way they don’t get shunted out of sight by new wall posts.

  • Does anyone know if Facebook notes generate either a news item in the news feed or in the ticker?

    Thanks

    Susan

  • Can anyone comment on the effects of having a post on your blog and the same one on notes? I have found that notes often come up in search results however I was also told that Google doesn’t like duplicate content, so if you were going down the SEO notes path you would need to produce more content.  Any ideas?
