  • I want to know more about Talking about & it’s functionality. How FB determine talking about of a Facebook Page . If i leave doing activities on page page for 1 or 2 days, talking about goes down rapidly. Is there anyone who can provide me a reasonable answer?

  • I don’t know exactly how the whole process works, but I can tell you hat you constantly need to post or maintain your page’s activity in order to keep Talking About up. There are certain services that let you plan posts, that way you can plan ahead for a couple of days and still the page keeps on rollin’.

  • Talking about this is supposed to be the total amount of unique people that have liked your page, liked a post, made a comment, or interacted with your page in another way in the last 7 days. It is important to post on Facebook everyday, especially on weekends. To help with this, I schedule posts using the FB scheduling feature.

  • If you click on the the link “XXXX Talking about this”  you’ll see a some metrics which will provide more insights for you.

When I look at any FB fan page I look at what I call the PTAT ratio – “People Talking  About This” divided by “Likes”. Generally if your ratio is higher than 5% you have OK engagement. I use it as a quick metric to determine how engaged a page is.

  • Yes, it is important to keep posting @randy-simmons to keep the ratio up.  If you have a post that does really well, it can help your ratio for a whole week since it’s a moving 7-day average.

I actually think anything above 2% is not bad, @mitch-rezman from all the pages I’ve seen.  It can depend a bit on the size of the page – it seems that smaller pages sometimes have an advantage of being able to keep their ratio higher than a larger page.  Usually at Social Media Examiner we hover between 3 and 4%

  • @andrea-vahl SM metrics currently have no benchmarks so we’re forced to create our own:-)

  • @mitch-rezman Yep!  Benchmarks definitely help to know how you are doing!

  • I’m quite overwhelmed by all the support and response I got here. It is really amazing how everybody is making a contribution to help one another. Thank you, Everyone.

  • @randy-simmons – for your PTAT to increase and/or hold you need “post likes”, comments and shares for EVERY” post – if you’re not seeing your fans take these actions – shift gears and find more compelling content. Remember FB favors images more so than video & links
I’ve found the schedule posting function very helpful in keeping our PTAT high. I’m an admin for 3 pages and one group. I try to plan a weeks worth of posts in advance and keep a Google doc spreadsheet to keep track.

I post twice daily during the week and once early morning on the week ends on our main FB page – once a day (morning) on my other pages. Because I spread my 2 posts 12 hours apart, I now watch for notifications mid day from the many groups I belong to and seek high quality posts to share mid day (it would be nice to schedule shares).
The mid day shares always generate lot of comments because the poster always chimes in on our pages’ time line “that’s my mine yada yada” which helps keep our PTAT up
