some of the business pages have more than just wall, info, etc in the left panel. Secondlife, castleville, are examples of business pages that have a “welcome” page in addition to other pages. In one the welcome page has an image that invites you to “like” them, while the other has a voting meter.

Does anyone know where I can find information on how to create that welcome page, or tab? Im not sure of the terminology. And what do I need to research if I want to put active content in there such as a linked image or a voting poll?

As Vijay mentioned in his comment, there are lots of tools out there to use for tweeking your pages.

agreed with  @vijayspaul, there is many apps as mention above to create custom pages on facebook and all are easy to use, the free versions provide limited options where as paid service provide full options to create pages and other apps to add on it. 

If you know graphic design or coding you can do it your self and then can load it through these apps on your page. Or you can get it designed and then install it on your fan page, there is no limit till now so you can add as many tabs as you want.

@katherinebjork I really love Shortstack. Highly customisable and easy to set up for people who aren’t that techy. Pagemodo is beautiful but takes ages to load, depending what images you use etc.
