How to change Facebook Page Name (not url) for page having 100+ fans? (28 posts)

  • One of my client is having Facebook page has more than 100 likes(almost 125). And they have recently changed the name from Rachi System to LogiTrain (facebook.com/rachisystems). Now the issue i am facing is that i tried to change the facebook page name (not url) from Rachi System to LogiTrain, but facebook told me that page having more than 100 fans can’t change the name.

So are you guys available with any other solution to this issue? Thanks,Cheers!

  • Well I’m curious to see if someone has found a way around this.  When I did a search I found http://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=271607792873806 and it doesn’t look like FB is leaving any wiggle room. Hmmmm….

You may have to set up a new page and ask your following to like you at your new location.  Maybe set up a contest or some incentive. You could always keep the old page active and keep making posts there that you are at a new location. NOT a very ideal solution… UGHhh!

    Anyone else got some ideas?

  • @moinshaikh @juleswebb I didn’t know about this at all! Must of slipped through the radar.

Apparently Facebook did this as they don’t want Page administrators to build up fan bases under false pretenses and the suddenly switch the Page name.

Understandable but frustating for legit pages.

I know of no way to get around this. Sorry!

    Russell Allert

  • @moinshaikh @russellallert I was also not aware of this! I would just make a new page and send messages to the fans of that group informing them of the new page. Also post it all over the current page with a link to the new page!! That’s my opinion anyway

  • @juleswebb thanks for trying for solution.

@russellallert thanks and don’t be sorry dear. @sgsrecording i think i need to remove some 26 of my closet friends who are fans (so that my fan base slips to 99) then i can rename it and can invite them to re-join. I can do this with my close buddies only.

  • @moinshaikh – please post back and let us know if that works.  I’d be interested in hearing how it all plays out.

    Good Luck!
    Jules

  • @moinshaikh
I once had a page with 108 fans and happened exactly the same. I remove 9 fans which I knew I can ask them to join the facebook page later and it was possible to change the page name. If it worked for me it should work for you.
    Good luck!

  • @juleswebb sure i’ll be back after doing some experiments!

  • @fernandocortes thanks mate, i am gonna do same thing, and i hope for it to work for me. I mean i am gonna remove those 25 to whom i know. Good to hear from you that it worked :)

  • @moinshaikh there is something very important to take in consideration. All of your fans will get a notification that the name of the page has changed. it’s not like you can just change the name and use it as a new page. Facebook will let know those 99 fans that you have changed the name of the page.

  • @fernandocortes Thanks for this big news. Will those 99 fans be effected in terms of receiving page updates?

  • @moinshaikh they will continue receiving  the updates of your new page, no problem with that. What its not possible is to change the name without anyone noticing. Think about that this action may affect the credibility of your client FB page and can can compromise the brand.

  • @fernandocortes, thanks, and i agree with your point of affecting client credibility. But thing is legal and real. Client company has changed the hands on corporate world. They have officially issued notice of change in name. Though, i need to be some careful with dealing in this thing. Thanks

  • At least you only have to move 100 fans, @moinshaikh   When I started my main page the spelling of the title was wrong. By the time I noticed it, we had over 150 fans so I could not change it.  I probably should have that week but the page took off so fast all I could do was sit back and wonder what happened.  Anyway,  I tried everything.  There is no way to change a title.  I thought about starting a new page, but the numbers kept growing and my fans did not seem to care about the spelling. This past year, Mari Smith suggested that I try contacting Facebook through the “copyright infringement”  form. I did.  I told them that I was violation of my own trademark.   I did not think I would hear back.  Imagine my surprise when they changed the spelling that day!

However, this is very rare.  I have not heard of other people who have been able to change their title.  I think I was lucky that day and just happened to reach the right person.

I would suggest starting to move your fans to a new page right away.  You can post every day and give them the new link.  If they do not come over, they really were not interested anyway.

  • @randithompson strongly agree to your last sentence, if they do not come over, they really were not interested anyway. And yeah i also have contacted facebook today via help center to take a chance, if nothing gonna happen, i will take backup of my fan base, create new page and invite them to re-join the new page.

    Thanks,

  • @moinshaikh One problem if a new page is created is the actual following of those who liked the other page. One of our partners changed names and we had to set up the new pages. We still have some who followed the old page and have yet to join the new page. I regularly still post on the old page advising any followers to follow the new page instead. The image for the old page even represents the name change and to follow the new page. Good luck to you! I hope it works!

  • @alexandrabriggs Thank you very much alexandra, and good luck to you too in getting all the follower back at your new page.

  • @moinshaikh That’s another solution. Maybe you can put “old name” is now “new name” on the profile pictu so people kow the new brand.

  • I have a problem because I’m now helping with a company’s Facebook—originally they named the page completely wrong (in house volunteer unfamiliar with Social Media) then they got over 100+ fans rather quickly and it was already at 500+ when I started helping. They desperately turned to me to “fix” the page name and I had to explain that it was too late unless they wanted to start from scratch.

I really wish Facebook would allow some way of getting around this issue—there are a lot of businesses out there who didn’t quite know what they were doing and before they realized it, were at the point of no return.

  • @alexachipman, right, i am also hoping for facebook to take such initiatives that help genuine mistakes of business owners who are not so tech savvy.

This can work, together with posts announcing the change. Maybe in the posts you could also announce that the old page will be soon deleted.
Another idea could be creating a custom tab in the old fanpage, and setting that tab as the landing tab. That should link to the new page.

  • @demorden thanks, i would rather go with your extra tab option.

  • @moinshaikh I like @demorden idea of the tab to link to the new page! That is something that would have been great for us in addition to using our profile image noting the change! Please keep us posted on how things pan out!

  • @alexandrabriggs, me too liked that new tab idea, and definitely will keep posting on with the solution.

  • Wow, glad to see that my little idea is appreciated! :)

Allow me to suggest also to insert a “like button” for the new page in the custom tab… since you’re making one, it takes 5 more seconds and it can’t hurt.

If I can think of something else, I’ll keep sharing my ideas.

Someone else wants to add some tips? :)

  • @demorden thanks mate, sometimes little can do really big. And i think this is gonna be that time. I think little here is gonna big idea

  • @moinshaikh Thanks for this topic. It doesn’t sound like I can do anything about my association’s page after glancing at these comments. Yesterday we re-branded / re-positioned ourselves to be more inclusive of members other than advertising agencies. Of course, our page and link read Association of Hispanic Advertising Agencies. The page has over 1600 fans so “unliking” them is not an option. At least the graphic and about us have updated to reflect the new us: AHAA: The Voice of Hispanic Marketing.
