How long will people put up with FB? (7 posts)

  • Seems to me that FB and Google + are in a race to the death to annoy their users the most. I’m hearing a lot of complaints  about page clutter from users

  • Oh, Ian, I certainly understand how you feel. But this clutter bug revolution began with a college generation and it will grow exponentially until another college generation comes up with their thing. Just like the hippy baby-boomers did in their day. I do agree sometimes it’s a pain in the neck and very distracting, but the positive affect it has in helping families and friends and nations and everyone connect has made our lives overall much better, if not safer. Just my PollyAnna view….

  • @ifenwick @atlantarobin I have personally been on Facebook from “Thefacebook.com” days and I have watched the constant updates and changes take form. Back in the pre-advertising days and when only a limited number of individuals could join theFacebook there wasn’t as much clutter as pure networking. Whenever ad space becomes potential and the market opens to any user the clutter is bound to get distracting. I agree with Robin that the cons seem to weigh out the cons. Although I admittedly have deactivated my personal facebook account occasionally to step away from the clutter.

  • @ifenwick The question is not IF facebook or G+ dies, the question is WHEN.

Just like anything else, there are cycles. Facebook is growing and is a global behemoth, yet it’s not that strong in China and other Asian countries, and it keeps pissing off many people in the Western world. Still, it’s most likely a better network or concept will come along. As @alexandrabriggs mentioned, as long as the pros outweigh the cons, people will stick around.

10 years ago, it was all about AOL, MySpace and AskJeeves. Where are they now? Twitter was born, what, in 2006? Facebook in 2003? It’s all so brand new, and things are moving so fast, that it’s hard to tell where things will go next. Well, it will be mobile, for sure, but on which preferred platform remains to be seen… ;-)

  • @ifenwick  What we are looking at is a very pliable, maleable field in social/business matters. Paradigm shifts are not only apparent they are expected. The one sure certainty is change. The question is who is able to determine the rate and direction of change? Find that individual, get them on your team. I certainly would like to. The global picture can be seen, if we slow our pace enough to view clearly.

  • Facebook may have issues but with membership to reach 1 Billion this year it probably will continue to be the leading social network for quite some time.

  • A recent study showed that more people still use Myspace than Google+.  Myspace was almost the original in terms of SM, it is a dieing site.  But it shows just how few people use Google+.  Facebook is still the powerhouse SM site.
