How is Facebook working for your business with all the changes? (8 posts)

  • This forum is all about how to better understand Facebook in respect to your business or as a marketer.

With all the changes lately to Facebook, from Promoted Posts to the trial of ordering post comments by engagement, I just wanted to ask how much difference you have seen in your marketing efforts on Facebook now, compared to before the changes.

Still having great success? Any tips or advice for the rest of us that may help us better understand how to still be effective on Facebook now would also be greatly appreciated.

  • Personally, I have seen a large decrease in my reach and subsequent engagement in the last few months. I have found the only way to get better reach is by posting more content on a daily basis, which has created a lot more work to get only a small increase in return. Anyone else found this?

  • very frustrated and  reaching  fewer than i used to….

but heres my plot so far…. alternate  between picture post and  text post…. texts are getting  much better  reach….then  using  a 10$  promoted post  a week,on  a  good picture post that i know our  customers  will like…..  plus  im experimenting  with putting   pictures or links in the   comments…

  • @annfurnivall It’s getting more difficult to work out on any given day what strategy will work the best. Text does seem to be getting better reach presently, but it’s not that long ago that pictures were the best option. I am constantly experimenting to see what is effective and what isn’t, but it is hard to get consistant results when FB keep changing the rules….

  • Hello @iancampbell, I completely get what you’re saying. Here’s the bottom line, facebook wants you to spend money, period.

Since they went public in May, they have been under a lot of pressure to perform. If you have noticed, they have now integrated the “promote” feature into the personal profile updates (It started with the pages updates).

The low reach is deliberate, and there’s really nothing one can do about it. Also, they are measuring the engagement on your posts, and if your posts get a lot of activity, they will push it to the top of the news feeds.

If you’re looking for more engagement, then you’ll have to spend a bit of money on ads. I’m currently working on a video training course that will focus on facebook ads basics. All the best.

  • I respectfully disagree with the group. we tested for this and turned off our ads we usually run 2 – 4 with a spend of $2 – $20 per day. Our reach still increased.

In spite of all the naysayers on LinkedIn, when we bought 300 fans over a 3 month period, our reach continued to increase.
This issue of Facebook forcing you to spend money is a myth http://goo.gl/184YU

I feel the Edgerank algorithm shifts just like  Googles I actually think Facebook followed suit after seeing Panda updates. Provide better content and and move higher in search – it’s a simple formula.
We stepped up our game, started posting twice daily and post 95% large engaging images which Edgerank favors (video is starting to work with Google)
Our measure of reach is the PTAT ratio. People Talking About This divided by Likes. We rarely fall below 20%

  • I only got one assignment to build a website through Facebook, but that was through a referral without spending any money. I have not tried any other means of marketing up to now because I have been learning (a bit) as and when I can. Maybe I’ll pick up some tips from other members in the club in time. Thank you for your comments and contributions.

  • @iancampbell  I have not been doing ads, so have not noticed the difference there.  I have noticed that not as many people seem to be seeing my pages.  That is why I now post more often.

My fan counts are still going up at the same level as before.  However, I am working to get people to “talk to me” on my posts so that both pages are on the newsfeeds as much as possible.

I think we will all adapt as the new Google and Facebook changes evolve.  I like where they are going.  Now, those who are spamming the internet will become invisible, and we will become visible as a result of interactions from real people.
