How do I adjust my jpg logo file to match the pixle requirements of fb? (10 posts)

  • Hi All,
Newbie question: When I upload my logo file for the cover, the whole logo doesn’t show, it’s cropped off. I know the requirements for the pixel height and length, but I don’t know how to determine or create the correct pixels from my jpg.

My graphic artist should know how to do this, and he was supposed to send me the correct logo files for fb, but he’s awol now and hasn’t responded, grrr.

Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Hi @cathemartin,

There is a free online photo editor that’s easy to use: http://pixlr.com/editor/, if this is a case of the dimensions being of off.  I’m sure you know you can reposition the cover pic within FB if there is any play in it.  If that doesn’t work, you should be able to resize and/or crop it to the exact dimensions you need in Pixlr.    If you need any help with it, post back.

  • Thanks so much Alicia!

I am having so many issues with creating our company fb page, where with my personal page it was and is simple to upload images and control settings

I did use the pixlr tool you suggested, resized the image to fit the requirements of 815×315, and the image when uploaded was still uneven. The reposition tool on facebook isn’t working on my page, the green arrow is not showing, so I’m unable to drag and reposition . I’m on a Mac and using FireFox, are there any compatibility issues that you are aware of?

I finally just deleted our page, even though I didn’t publish the page, it still was live while I was working on it. I am finding fb very glitchy and leaky, our website was a breeze as we had and have so much control over our admin interface and the ability to keep pages unpublished until they are ready to go live.

Is it just me, or are you finding that others have multiple issues over privacy, admin settings and uploading images?

  • Hi @cathemartin,

They certainly don’t make it easy, but don’t give up.  I’m sure you’ve tackled even harder challenges.

I’ve also heard the cover pic dimensions should be 851 x 315 as well as 863 x 315.  You could try all three to find the one that works best.  I used 815 x 315 on my page, but discovered that I shouldn’t put anything on the outer edges because FB seems to trim off a good 5 px or so when presenting it.  A good reference for dimensions can be found at http://www.jonloomer.com/2012/03/07/dimensions-for-facebook-timeline-for-pages-infographic/.  (Also, don’t forget there are a lot of rules for the cover pic for pages’ timelines: http://www.jonloomer.com/2012/03/04/facebook-timeline-for-pages-cover-photo-rules/).

The other issues haven’t been a problem lately – maybe I’ve gotten to the point that I automatically workaround them.  Usually it works better in Firefox than in IE, so I don’t think that is the problem but you never know.  (The insights definitely run better on Firefox.)  I use a PC though – sorry.

If you don’t have followers already, don’t worry about working on it live.  If you do you might try to do it at a time people may be less likely to be visiting.  For example, wait several hours after you do a post.  If people seem to engage the most with you at night, work on it during the day – and visa versa.

I’m not an expert by any means, so hopefully someone else will chime in.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks Alicia, I really appreciate your advice and kind words.

  • Great tools and resources everyone!  Another one I like is:   http://timelinecoverbanner.com/11/paper-texture-facebook-timeline-banner-background/   It helps you create a cover photo easily and it’s free :)

  • @andrea-vahl very cool, I hadn’t seen that before. Thx for the share!
