How did you get your first 50-100 fans? (21 posts)

  • Hey guys,

I just started a new website and trying to use the social media route to pull traffic. Mostly posting on forums highly related to my niche. It is hard enough to get people to read your post, but what more to “like” your fb page right? haha.

I just thought it would be interesting and helpful if some of you could share how you got your first 50-100 fans on facebook.

    Thx :)

  • @chuiks Hi Chui

The best way to do this is to do a combination of great posts – it doesn’t matter if you have only a few fans, pretend you have 2000 – and, if you can afford about $20 per week, run some targeted Facebook ads to your page.

Please feel free to contact me and I can help you out a little. I also have a competition where you can win a free evaluation of your social media efforts, which ends today, if you want to enter!

PS DO NOT buy Likes. :)

  • we have a big  store and already had  a 3000 database of customers and  their emails…so we  started there…also my  daughter and daughter inlaw  had a lot of  facebook  friends  and  they  pushed it there and we  talked it up in the store and  put it on our website and on  most of the paper  reciepts and etc in the store….

it  just  took off  from there…..  we hit  1000  pretty  fast….  fb  is perfect  for our store as in lots of  women customers , lots of    eye candy and home  furnishings…we try  to  post  lots of pictures and  put on things  that arent  just about selling….. we are  local not  online  sellers…. one popular   post waws bout a  shelf  that  crashed to the  floor   breaking   a  big pile of  dishes….http://www.facebook.com/greenoakantiques .

  • Agree with @russellallert Act like you have 1,000 already – come up with a posting list of 3 posts / day for the next 2 weeks. Post at times of day you think people are around. like and respond to anyone who posts back. Add pictures and some humor.

  • Most of mine came from friends I already had on Facebook and interaction with people at networking events.

  • If your page has a catchy or descriptive name you can use FB as your page and leave comments at similar pages. You’ll gain a few free likes this way to grow your base from.

  • @chuiks i think these simple, straight and effective tips from @rlmosca will definitely help you!

  • Hi,

A couple of methods would be to like similar pages in your niche and participate on their wall, I have also had some good success with facebook ads.

  • My first group of fans were all personal connections I had with my personal profile.  From there news spread and we were able to better connect to clients.

  • We encouraged employees and friends/family to like the page before we started marketing.  Then, like the suggestions above, we posted as if we were always there and had thousands of fans – always engaging.

  • I went the FB advertising route for our golf courses, using targeted demographics to ensure that I was advertising to golfers in our area.  It got us approximately 75 fans per page in the 2 months I ran the ads and we have 3 pages ~ so for $300, I gained a base to work with.

  • @chuiks Most of the tips above are Great!! Content is definitely one of the best paths to take -  think of what your audience is interested in. What kind of educational value could you provide them with? What could they learn from you? What could they take from your page and apply in real life? Position yourself as an ‘educator’. Inspirational/motivational content as it’s pertaining to your business is highly ‘share-able’ too.

Also, include a link to your fan page from your email signature. Make sure that Facebook links are present on All pages of your site. I would also include FB on all your printed materials and business cards too.

    Hope this helps you,

  • Run facebook ads to get the ball rolling. You don’t need to spend a bunch to get great results. Just make sure your campaign is well targeted. We ran 1  campaign in particular and spent around $50 – and achieved around 200+ new page likes for our FB page in a few weeks.

Once you get some likes coming in – then it’s time to start the engagement. Get out there and look for related groups to join and/or tribes. Work on helping others, sharing your expertise, and establishing a brand. Answer any questions and comments on your wall/messages and always make sure to thank anyone for their help or Likes.

Work on these things and the “Likes” will start pouring in.  (:

  • Hi all, firstly you can start up with your own network like fb friends, linkedin connections, etc. then roll out fb ads with strong CTA ads and which attracts audience towards your fanpage.

  • Hi, most of mine came through groups in LinkIn, where we liked each others pages, and of course through Facebook friends and family. Also updating several times a week to keep my page interesting.

  • I did Facebook ads for a client and it got the ball rolling – once they hit over 50 then the FB link on their website kept the momentum going. If you have an email list then you can send a quick email to announce your new facebook page and encourage them to like it. But make sure you have plenty of content at your facebook page before you do any emails or ads. It’s disconcerting to send a visitor to a Facebook with little or stale content and only 1 or 2 likes.

  • @russellallert  you’re such a sport to recommend a competition

  • @alexandrapotora great tips alexandra. Content indeed is king!

  • Dear Friends,

We started off by sending all our Facebook friends a personal mesage that we had a Ibiza Inside Page. From there it took off quickly. We mentiion our Facebook page on all our Social Media Platforms. We feel that you should create a very personal page were people feel at home, were you solve their problems, and make it very personal.

We post twice a day max and we do not  only give information. Sometimes we update a funny film or quote to make the page easy and light to digest. It should be fun for people to be at your page, and they should feel at home. We wish you all the best of luck with your Facebook page..

  • Hi,

I started with a blog and web site and shared it with everyone I knew.  After a few weeks I asked them to join me on FB and share with their friends.  So farIi have 105 fans. Hope to add more as I start using FB ads

  • I typed a brief message into a word doc. then copy/pasted it into a personal email of all our client base (it’s small right now).  Took a couple of hours one Sun. am.! Next, I did the same in a FB private message to every relative, high school chum, etc. in my FRIENDS list. When our Fan Page made it to 25; I was excited have earned our company FB url!  Then I asked strategic friends in my teaching profession on FB to follow our page, as a personal favor to our friendship, for at least 30 days.  I asked them to find at least 1 of my page posts and like/comment/share once a week.  Before I knew it our logo via our Fan Page was moving throughout FB & high enough that our website traffic #’s increased and the phone calls for business increased.  Be patient, it took about 3 mos.  Good luck, and have FUN with it:)
