One of my clients who is a dentist would like to hold a Q and A session on Facebook, say once every couple of months, to give advice and tips.  Very much like the SME Friday session, where you can type in a question and have it answered live. Can anyone throw light on how to set this up  -  is there  a way to do this so that all the posts don’t show up on friends’ facebook pages?

@pollyb Very cool!  Yes you do have to do it right so you aren’t “overposting”.  The way we do it is have our fans post the questions and then the Expert answers them.  So you could do something similar where the people post the questions and the Page answers them – then it wouldn’t post all over people’s walls, there are just the few posts you have asking people to post questions on the wall.

One thing that happens is that people post them in the thread (in response to the call for questions) and you have to tell them to click the link:  ie  www.facebook.com/smexaminer, to be able to answer the questions individually.

Also it may take some quiet weeks to get it started and get people  used to the idea.  Another thing you could try is an app like Livestream where people post questions in the chat and the dentist answers them.  I don’t know if you’ve seen our Linqto sessions we ran lately:  http://apps.facebook.com/smexaminer but that app costs $8/month (not bad but an expense)

No problem, @pollyb – Facebook is a little bit of a mystery sometimes!

So the only thing that your Fans will see in their News Feed is any post that you post as your Page.  If someone else posts on your Timeline or tags you, your fans don’t actually see that unless they come to your page and look at that Posts by Others area.  
So if you want them to see the “chat” they will have to be told to “click here to participate” then have a link to your Page.  The problem is now with the new Timelines, the Posts by Others isn’t quite as obvious.  So now they may also have to be told to look a the Posts by Others to see other people’s questions.  
Another solution is to have a chat app like http://www.clobby.com/.  Or to have the questions all within the main thread (underneath the main post from the Page) Then the page could tag people within the thread to have a semi-conversation.  Hope that helps!
