Hiding/deleting posts (6 posts)

  • I want to hide a post someone made on my wall but when I select “hide post” it’s saying “Post has been reported as spam.” I don’t want to report the post as spam as this will only further anger the person who posted. Do people get notified when they’re reported for spam? Why can’t I just quietly hide the darn post?

  • @ericaetelson My understanding is that people don’t know if someone reported them as ‘spam’. However, if Facebook or Twitter receive numerous spam reports regarding a specific account or individual, it becomes ground to take action.

I am surprised that you can’t do either, or. Usually, you can either hide post or report as spam. Strange, unless settings have changed lately on Facebook…

Let’s see if anyone else can help on this discussion.

  •  I should clarify that this is a biz page, not a personal page. And yes the settings do seem to constantly change, so annoying!

  • Yes, @ericaetelson,  @fredericgonzalo is right, they will not be notified that you classified it as spam.  But I believe what does happen is that if they have enough spam reports in a short amount of time they will be blocked from making more comments.  And may even be deleted.  It also helps Facebook figure out what to post on your wall and what to put in your “Hidden Posts”

Right now I see a Delete and a Hide on the posts.  And I swear, sometimes it seems like I do one and it says it’s been marked as spam and other times I think it just puts it into the “Hidden Posts”  So I don’t know which one works what way!  They may even change it from time to time.

  • Thanks all. I’m just deleting instead of hiding now and that seem to work and doesn’t generate the spam message.

  • thank you for asking this question so that answers can be posted, good to know if I ever have the same situation @ericaetelson
