Help my rusty knowledge of Facebook Groups (3 posts)

    Hi all from dark and rainy UK!

    I run a small business helping local businesses market themselves on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.

    I was approached by a photographer today who wanted me to search for Local Facebook Groups (in his case New Mums in Brighton) so that he could advertise his services.  He has heard that other photographers do this by contacting the group owner, getting to know them and then putting a jpeg on the group to advertise their services.

    Has anyone else done this or come across this?  My knowledge on groups is rusty.  Are you able to contact group leaders by direct message?  I am ashamed of my ignorance but i’ve not focused on groups at all.

    Any comments would be really appreciated.

    Yes, @julietd you can definitely see who the group owner is.  Many groups are open groups and you can join them for networking.  Other groups may be closed but they still show who the owner is.  But if the owner of the group doesn’t have their Message button open, then there is no way to contact them.  

    What I do to search for groups is use http://www.facebook.com/search and then put a term into the search bar and filter the results by Groups.  Make sure you select the “See more results” at the bottom of the drop-down menu before you try and filter the results you get.  Hope that helps!!
