Help- I’ve ended up with 2 pages (10 posts)

  • Hi everyone,
this is my first post so how yah all doin.
I recently did a business page for my business and when I did it F/B asked me if I would like to get my “place”. I didn’t know much about it at the time but said yes and filled in a few of the details. I went ahead and put a bunch of images up on the page (not place) showing some of the jewellery I sell in my gallery:http://www.facebook.com/talismangalleryandcafe?sk=wall but found that when people were searching for my page the “place” which had nothing on it would always come up.
I have since put some images up on my “place” page:http://www.facebook.com/pages/Talisman-Gallery-and-Cafe-Little-Hartley/196753030335960 but now I have 2 pages.
My question is whether there is any advantage to keeping the first page( I can’t see any) and if there is a way of transferring the images over to the “place” page in a bulk way so I don’t have to upload them separately again.
    Would appreciate any feedback,
    cheers Ron

  • According to help you can merge two pages or places. I tried it tonight though and the link to merge the two was not visible in the resource section where it was supposed to be. I confirmed she had two identical pages with the same names. One has 45 likes and the other 35 likes. She is indeed admin on both of them. Can anyone shed light on this?

  • Yeah, I just tried the same thing and got the same result.

  • @michellefontaine @vortex1050 Another Facebook quirk (amongst so many!) You won’t see the Merge Duplicate Pages unless you are logged in as your personal profile and navigate to the Page and Edit Page area.  So you should be able to merge the two easily since you are admins on both.  Sometimes it does get tricky and they don’t show up.  Let me know if this works!

  • Thanks Andrea, I’ll give it a try,
    cheers Ron

  • I am logged in as my personal profile but the ‘merge pages’ still isn’t coming up,
do you have any other suggestions,
    cheers Ron

  • Lisa was also logged in as her personal profile when we looked at her two pages. She was not viewing them as her page but as herself. @andrea-vahl @vortex1050Love to hear updates on this subject. If I find any I will post.

  • @andrea-vahl @michellefontaine
I ended up emailing facebook about the issue and they were really helpful and got back to me telling me they might be able to help me which they did. They merged the 2 pages for me but unfortunately all the pics on the 2nd page didn’t transfer to my place page which was kinda the point of it all.

I have contacted them again to see if the photos can be merged but haven’t heard back yet.

Andrea, I’m a bit of a newbie and couldn’t put a profile pic of myself up for this forum. Can you only upload a pic that is already on a site somewhere or can you upload one from your desktop,
    cheers Ron

  • Good to know, @vortex1050 – I always like to hear that Facebook does occasionally help out!  Bummer about the photos not merging though.

So the easiest way to add your photo is to use the http://www.gravatar.com service.  This is a great thing to have as many blog commenting systems pull from Gravatar as well.  But if you don’t want to do that, we had a helpful post in the If you are new here thread about using a Facebook photo:  Go to fb(login i mean), click on your profile pic at right side, then your profile pic will be displayed on page (say album or like that) then again click on that picture, and when the profile picture fully opens, right click on it and select copy image location or copy image url, then switch to your SME Club profile tab, edit your profile> choose avatar> and paste that copied link in the SME Profile avatar link box.
Note that this will work for any picture you have out on the web that you want to use as your photo.  Hope that helps!

  • Hey @andrea-vahl thanks for your help, I’ll give it a go.
    cheers Ron
