HELP! FB Removed Me as an Admin of My Business Page (8 posts)

  • Hi all – hoping you can help. I received an e-mail allegedly from FB yesterday saying someone else had provided information to them that they were affiliated with our business, and they were accepted as an admin and I was removed! How does FB even allow that? Now, my page is completely gone and I have no idea who FB gave it to. Email I received was:Hi Erica,Facebook gives people the ability to claim a Page if it represents a business that they can prove an official connection to.You have been the admin for The Common Man Spa but now that Page has been claimed by someone who has demonstrated that they are authorized to represent it.If you have additional questions about why you have been removed as an admin, learn more about claiming a Page here:https://www.facebook.com/help/location/claimThanks,
    The Facebook Team

WHAT??? Of course, it’s a no reply email and the help page of FB is awful. I filled out a few forms but none were specific to “someone apparently hijacked my page.” I had two other admins on the page within our company and they too received the email and are bumped out.

Can anyone help me? Not only to get this page back but how do I protect our other, larger fan base pages within our brand, from getting hijacked as well? This is insane! (Sorry, in a bit of a panic)

    Thank you!

  • Hi @erica-murphy, it’s rather unfortunate that this has happened to you. It’s actually something I’ve been telling a few business owners I know.

I have searched for “The Common Man Spa” on facebook, and the results returned an “Places” page (I don’t know if it’s the right one). Places pages are usually not claimed, and that’s what happened to you. Give the the exact link to the page, and I will have a look to see if I can track the current admin.

  • I panicked and went in and claimed The Common Man Spa places page last night in case it was related to this incident as it was previously unclaimed. The link that the Spa page “was” at is: http://www.facebook.com/#!/thecommonmannhspa

How does this even happen? How does FB give up a business page to someone else without verifying with the current page owner/admin? Thanks!

  • hmmm. I hope I never experience that. Odd.

  • They do that based on the credentials people provide them (email address mainly).

If a page is left unclaimed, regardless if there’s an admin already, facebook will give it to whoever steps up to claim it. Like I said before, it is usually a problem found on “Places” pages.

I’ve told a number of businesses about this issue, but they keep ignoring it. Once you create a places page, ensure you claim it before someone else does.

PS: The link you just provided to the page is taking me to the facebook news feed section. Have a look at it again.

  • They would have to provide either a bill with their name on it @erica-murphy to actually remove it from you or other documentation that it was their business. Facebook doesn’t allow people to claim a business or report it as intellectual property lightly.  I would keep submitting documents that the place is yours  @erica-murphy

You can try this:  http://www.facebook.com/help/168172433243582/  I would submit documentation with a bill if you can.
And I think that link isn’t correct.  I couldn’t find it in the search either.

  • Hi all – I am really at a loss and appreciate your comments. No one else at the Spa manages the page or has attempted to. I have claimed the “Places” page that sprung up after one person checked in, but it’s my business page that is GONE! The link I pasted above was direct from our web site leading to our Spa facebook page. You likely can’t find it because the FB page is completely gone now. I submitted several help forms on Monday night and have heard NOTHING back from FB yet. Any other courses of action I can take? Does FB archive pages that are deleted so I can get it back?

Also, how do I protect our other business pages? We have one main The Common Man brand page, but if I go claim all of the “places” pages that have cropped up as a result of guests checking in I can’t really merge it with the brand page as they’ve checked in at different restaurants. And, what’s stopping someone from making a Place page and then claiming they should be the admin of it? How do I keep up? I’ve been managing our pages for five years now and have never run into anything like this! HELP!

  • I can see the page now. Did you get it back?

Update us on this terrible saga.

    Thanks
