Help Boosting Likes (8 posts)

  • Hello. My name is Sarah Lanse, and I was recently hired as a social media coordinator for a cleaning supplies distribution company. This is the company’s first venture into social media and my first job in a social media role, having spent the majority of my career in news. I have been here for almost a month, and feel like I have reached a plateau getting Facebook likes. We have 110 right now, but I am kind of stuck on getting more w/o posting an ad. A good portion of likes are people I connected with on LinkedIn who liked my page in exchange for theirs. Here is the link: http://www.facebook.com/CenturyProductsLLC. Any suggestions would be amazing!

    Thank you!

  • are  you sure businesses  are   on  facebook  wanting   to hear about  cleaning  supplies?   i think  you have a pretty hard  job   trying  to  build a  big page on that subject.

..and  traded links   is  not much to  build on either.

..hopefully there is  another way to  get  your   good info out to   interested   potential  customers….

  • Hey @smlanse definitely don’t get discouraged – In my opinion, the more a company is considered ‘not-so-interesting’, the bigger the excitement, because now you’re really mentally stimulated. Hang tough!

With that said, here are some suggestions:
    1. Cover the basics – make sure that your SMM info is listed EVERYWHERE- from website & blog, to email signatures, invoices, receipts, letterhead, etc. Show that you’re social.

    2. Do giveaways. And think beyond freebies that pertain to your industry vertical. I haven’t seen anybody turn down a shot at winning a $50 gift card yet, so think of more Universal giveaways. For that, you’ll need an app. Find 1 that requires you to ‘Like’ the page before participating.

    3. Look up some of the companies you distribute to, and partner up with the ones with larger influence. If you build reciprocal relationships with a handful of companies that have 3-4K organic fans and they link to you in posts once a week, odds are that you’ll get some increased exposure.

    4. Use your insights and learn when your community is most active. Content is still king, so try posting when your fans are ready to listen. Keep it Short and use relevant images.
Educate, entertain, and give away. That always works.

Hope this will get you started,

    ~ Alexandra

  • @smlanse  Some good suggestions from  @alexandrapotora and I do agree with  @annfurnivall that the Like exchange model isn’t a great place to build from because those aren’t your true customers.  Does the company have a customer e-mail list?  Have you sent a single-message mailing to those people all about your Facebook Page?  By single-message I mean that the e-mail only talks about your Facebook Page, not a little footnote at the bottom that says “Like us on Facebook” that no one notices?

So I think there are a couple of suggestions – one in your About section, change the part that shows up on the main Timeline so that it tells more about your business.  Right now it says I want to know “About Century Products LLC”  I want to know if you ship all over, what is your website address, and what things will you talk about on your Page.  It’s hard to fit that all in but it can help.  ”Like us for all the best cleaning tips” – because you are giving out good tips.
Then maybe run a contest for a give away and send that message out to all your current customers.
Who are your traditional customers?  Cleaning services?  Maid services?  Find Pages of your customers if you can and Like them as your Page so you can comment on their posts.   Or find Pages of potential customers and comment (thoughtfully) on their posts.
Those are my initial thoughts.  Hope that helps!

  • Thank you all so much for the tips! I am definitely going to give them a try!

  • How about doing a survey and then releasing the results? I constantly hear the results of a survey about various topics, like the economy is improving because more elevators need repair, which proves people are using more elevators because they have more money and need to go up and down (obviously I just made that one up because it doesn’t make a lot of sense.) But you can use your cleaning supplies to be the basis of some survey as well. Use surveymonkey’s free questionnaire tool and send it to all your customers. Then send out a press release to every possible media outlet, including the free ones that get tossed onto your driveway every Wednesday. They love that kind of stuff. Make sure the full results of your survey are only available on your Facebook page. Let us know how things turn out. I’ll bet you a nickel your “likes” go up dramatically.

  • Thank you so much for the suggestion Bob!

  • @andrea-vahl

I ignore the about page when I’m surfing.
