Have you used Facebook for non-profit fund raising? (7 posts)

  • Basset Hound Rescue of Alabama recently participated in Alabama Gives Day, a statewide initiative. 1093 NPs were signed up, raising $795,000.  BHRA used FB pages to promote giving to the organization beginning 4 days out and raised over $1000. BHRA was 195th highest in funds raised. Amazing as there were some heavy hitters on the list.  Have any of you had fund raising experiences to share as a result of using FB?

  • @trudy excellent point trudy! i was just looking for someone like you to assist me in my nonprofit’s fund raising on fb.

I have had little try with causes.com for fund raising via my fb fans for our charity hospital. Causes.com is a fund raising site and is offering same via a fb app.(http://www.causes.com/?utm_campaign=canvas&utm_medium=canvas&utm_source=fb)

I will be much happy to hear from you more in this regard!

  • I’m involved with a couple of non-profits. I’ve tinkered with the idea of either creating or finding an app (would probably have to be a 3rd party app) where donations can be taken straight from the organization’s facebook page.

  • @trudy Sort of, my mom started a non-profit thrift store supporting hospice care for cancer patients. She wanted to get more exposure and asked me to do social media marketing for her, it seems to be working pretty well and is bringing in many donated items for her to sell. She uses Facebook to post information about the cause and asks for specific types of donated items based on what the local community is looking for. She also posts new items that come into her shop so that her followers know to come in when there is something they want to buy.

It’s a little different than just direct fund raising but if you want to check out what she’s doing her page is: Journey Home Thrift
