Grow Facebook Fans @ A Live Event (6 posts)

  • Hi All!

I work as a Social Media Specialist for a timeshare member association. Basically I try to market to the members that we have already, and engage them with us through social media. We have an Annual Meeting coming up where about 500 of our 60,000 will be attending. The people that usually attend this event, are very involved with the club already. I am wanting to somehow promote our Facebook page to them at this event, and maybe even give some sort of incentive for them to refer other members to our page, so we can grow the page and get more information out to our members quickly. (Before I started, we basically just sent eblasts and quarterly newsletters out…yawn. Our facebook page has started becoming a forum where our members even give each other tips on what to do when they are at one of our resorts). I am just at a loss for some fun creative way to get more of our members to our page, and thought this event could be a good opportunity. Has anyone done something like this in the past that might have a few tips/pointers? Thanks so much for taking the time to read all of this!

  • How about running a contest on Facebook with a custom tab app.  They enter the contest by going to your FB Page and doing something (upload & tag a picture from the event, a video testimonial, add a review).

You can give so many tickets for each action they take …including referring other members.

Here is an example of one I’m starting up for a Realtor customer to get more reviews and Fans plus referrals.

  • @stephanie-saum  A contest is a great way to do something fun.  But the hard thing is that it is a live event and some contest apps are not mobile friendly.  But  you could maybe have a PC there where people could log into Facebook – not sure if that’s practical either.   Or hand out a little sticker with your page name and contest name so they can go home and enter.

Maybe just make it silly and fun.  Stand a the microphone, tell everyone to put their mobile phone in their left hand and raise it up – then say ok, now go to your mobile browser and type facebook.com/____Yourpagename___  we’ll wait… now click Like.  Or something silly like that.
Or just take a lot of pictures at the event and upload them on the spot so people go home and look at them – everyone likes to see themselves in pictures.

  • QR codes on name tags and have people post pictures of everyone else. whoever does the most gets a prize.

same type idea as @andrea-vahl said, but tweet a hashtag and get yourself trending on twitter.

  • @richardmclaughlin –  I really like this idea of the QR code being used to help point people to a live event promotion.

Has anyone had a lot of success using QR codes to gain action from people? A former client used one in a curved poster display here in Dubai and they had a lot of problems with people not being able to read it. (and no they didn’t ask prior to having it printed, etc.)
Of course not everyone has a smartphone so it would be good to still mention it at the microphone or through your onsite Twitter wall.

  • I want SME to use QR codes at the San Diego event.
