What’s the best way to reach fans… (7 posts)

  • What’s the best way to reach your fans when your markets are separated by cities?

A fan page I run, HalfOffDeal (it’s kind of like a groupon thing) is separated this way and I’m struggling with the best way to reach them. I know that you can make posts to specific cities but that seems limited because a lot of people don’t even include that in their info. So those post have really low reach and even lower response. Do those post affect edge rank?

I thought maybe I could grow those markets each fan page, but some of my colleagues think that it will damage the brand.

what do you think is the best way to approach this?

  • Many large brands have one page and separate their posts by geographic area, @calebsoudry so I don’t think that it’s a bad thing to do this.  I do think it can be confusing to have multiple pages for each city and it just adds so much to the workload to update and maintain each page separately.

    Others thoughts?

  • Hi @andrea-vahl, Thank you so much for the response! I really appreciate it. I guess my concern is about the 9,400 fans that I have and why it is that when looking at the pages insights only 1,100 fans we’re separated by their city? It seems like if I need to make a post to Chicago than only the people who put that in their info will get it and I’ll be missing out on all the people who leave that blank. Is their way around that?

I can definitely see how having separate pages would increase the workload, but I just want to make sure that people are seeing post that are relevant to them. Specifically the deals that are in their city.

  • P.S. Has anyone tried the multiple fan pages for different locations of the same brand? What was your take away?

  • @calebsoudry ~ I can tell you that we have three different locations for 3 very different courses.  It’s really hard to keep everything going at once.

  • @calebsoudry Well I am a great believer in benchmarking. I just took a look at what Groupon are doing and they do seem to have a page for each city. You might want to check out a few of your peers to see how they handle it.

  • @dedimason and @abigailgorton Thank you guys so much! I really appreciated your advice and input! I’ve decided to hold off on creating separate pages, and continue testing location based posting.
