FYI… Facebook is starting to take down Profiles that are business oriented (89 posts)

  • FYI… Facebook is starting to take down Profiles that are business oriented, when this happens you lose all access to your page and all of your friends and customers who friended you and there is no way to recover the lost information, if you already use a profile for your business I suggest you start a business page (Fan Page) and invite all of your friends from your business profile to like your new fan page and if you are considering starting a profile page for your business DON’T it will be a big mistake!

  • @rlmosca

Thanks for posting. I know FB has been saying they would do this for a while now. Before they do it, I wish they would post on every profile operating as a business this is coming. Some still don’t know the difference between a profile page and a like page. We come across it all the time.

  • @donpurdum They won’t post it on profiles because it is in their Terms Of Service and everyone who signs up for Facebook is supposed to read it.

The difference between a Profile and a Business Page, Fan Page) is that a
Profile page is for individuals to socialize with friends & family and no business is to be conducted at all on a profile page

A like page, (a business or fan page) is used for and by businesses to market their business and stay in contact with their customers.

  • @rlmosca

Hi Rick! I understand, they’ve been warning against this for some time now.

  • Do you know of accounts where this has happened, @rlmosca?  Or did they make any formal announcement?

  • @andrea-vahl I have an acquaintance who’s friend had his profile removed for violating the TOS against using profiles for business, plus I have a friend who is an insider and he said they are discussing getting more aggressive in enforcing the tos in 2012.

    Rick

  • Good to know @rlmosca!  Thanks!

  • @andrea-vahl Glad to be of help!

  • I hope they don’t get too aggressive.  I know for some of my clients, they cross between the profile page and the fan page all the time.  They struggle getting some of their followers off their profile page and onto their fan page and have just given up.

  • @carolinechen-whatley
    @rlmosca

    I hear ya!
Some of my clients know the difference but many are newbies to the whole social media things, blogging, facebook, and either don’t know how to create a “page” or don’t know what one is. So I will soon be posting to let my audience/followers of my blog know to be sure they make the switch (create a business page).

    Thanks Rick,
    Heather :D

  • @blogsbyheather  Glad I could help you out!

    Rick

  • @rlmosca – thanks for posting!

  • That’s good to know! I didn’t know that was happening. Can you imagine losing all that data and having to rebuild it? That’s a real “TimeFine.” I’ll share that news with my clients.

  • hey everybody — to be clear — if you start a new personal account and use your business name for the first and last name, for example; First: WestEnd Last: Spa — That is a violation of the TOS. If you occasionally post items/events on your personal account that support your business — that is not a violation of the TOS.

Now that we have the personal account Subscription button, the separation of personal accounts and business account gets even more blurred.

If you are branding yourself you can turn on your Subscribe button and post business related things with any public post through your personal account. There is much more to this…

If you are branding your products — you really must have a business page. You’ll want to create ads at some point, and you have to use a business page to do that.

  • I don’t know how we are going to handle my husband’s profiles: one is with his legal name (which is used to socialize with family and church group), the other with his “on air” stage name. Almost all people he met and befriended in the last 20 years through the radio and DJ world only know him by his stage name.

I did create a couple of business pages for him and he definitely only uses his profile to socialize…if he had to choose, it would probably be his stage name profile.
@rlmosca thanks for the heads up!

  • @pamelasmalbein Your husband should turn on his Subscribe button on his stage name account, but not his real name account.

  • @rlmosca, Do you mind if I use your info here as a post on my FB timeline? There are quite a few “friends” that follow me as businesses, that I’ve been encouraging to change – I’d hope that their info would help them make that step faster…

@phyllis-khare, Do you mind if I share your info to help them figure it out?

I’d like to give a shout out to both of you on FB when I do…

  • @designbykiltz  By all means you can use any info I provide that will be of use to you.

    Rick

  • It’s funny! I really do not like Facebook and I had nothing but problem after problem with the social giant:( They even closed my account several years ago so now with my current account I must breathe very carefully. Just a few days ago I encountered a new unpleasant experience with the unfriendly social giant. For security reasons they locked my account, and it goes something like this: For security reasons your account is temporarily locked
Your computer appears to be infected with a malware.

How you might have been infected
Often, users who are infected with malware are tricked into running a malicious program or a browser plugin. Remember, you should never run programs from sources that you don’t trust.

I was then able to have my wife log in here Facebook account from my same computer with no problem. I think Mark Zuckerberg doesn’t like me:) I have no virus in my computer. I am the only one who uses this computer.

  • @ajarndonald Frequently there are no logical explanations for Facebook’s actions!

  • @rlmosca Yes Rick you have got that right. It’s a shame and not a fair policy because you can not challenge as Facebook always says their decision is final.

  • @phyllis-khare Thank you for sharing on the branding of you vs. products info.

  • @Caroline Chen-Whatley If people give up using their FB biz page because they are not able to get their friends to cross over – then perhaps they need to look at who those people are and if they are in fact the right target audience for their business and if so then what can they do to engage with them via their biz page instead of their personal profile.   Saying I cant get people to my biz page, give up and go back to using their personal profile for business is like saying I cant get customers to visit my shop so I am going to sell everything from my house instead…. people wouldn’t do it, they would look at their marketing and what is and isn’t working and make changes to attract more clients – :)

  • @Pam Smalbein if your husband has two personal profiles created then he is already against FB’s terms and conditions as you are only allowed one personal profile officially.

If he has a stage name and is a celebrity who doesn’t sell anything as such, but has people who want to follow him and see what he is doing then he should simply use one personal profile for that (choosing the one he prefers to keep) and let people subscribe to him and follow him and keep his friends to real friends so that he can differentiate who sees what posts (ie choose friends only for personal posts and public for all other posts)

OR he should setup a biz page for his celebrity show name and use that linked to his personal profile as himself …….. add links and signpost people to his page to engage with them there.  :)

  • Ajarn Donald  that sounds like you may have had a virus/phishing email sent to you and not like an email from Facebook  - if you could get into your account via your wifes login then your account was not locked and it is probably something to do with your computer not Facebook (it has happened to several people)

If you get an email saying it is from Facebook – the best way to check is to actually go to your Facebook account and see if it is all ok and working – you can also view the header of the email to see where it has really come from (most look like an official Facebook email but when you view the headers you can see they have come from someone completely different)

  • @caroldodsley It wasn’t an email. It was a BIG error message from Facebook when I opened my Facebook browser the same way as I have been doing on this computer for the last three years.

  • I tell all of you someone at Facebook doesn’t LIKE me:(I think they should make a New buttod that says Don’t LIKE LoL!

  • @ajarndonald  (I think they should make a New buttod that says Don’t LIKE LoL!   Funny but they were considering that last year, I think they put it on hold but they may resurrect it just for you!

  • So by turning on subscribe you can at the same time exceed the 50000 frien dlimit and create a brand name – as long as it doesn’t appear to be a mixture of personal and business?

  • @rlmosca I seriously wouldn’t doubt it Rick:) I have been punished several times like a little boy. They claim I have been adding people as a friend when I do not even know the person. I have now slightly more than 500 friends that are in my friends list since 2008. Facebook has no clue as to who I do know/don’t know and rely on another stupid button that gives you 2 choices add friend/ignore located at the top upper left hand corner of the page. If you ignore then they ask you if you know this person? Yes or no!!! T he last time I had my adding friends privileged taken away was for 7-day about six months ago. Now they got that Newer stupid button subscribe and I do not want to subscribe to people so I know what they are doing every minute on Facebook. I’m not a spy:)

  • I do hope they sort it out, it is so frustrating to tell clients that they have to have a business page and so cannot communicate directly with people who have already liked them other than through the wall or ads/sponsored stories… and then to see their competitors chatting away with clients who are ‘friends’ on a personal profile.

I have taken to PMing the offenders and telling them about Facebook’s terms and conditions but until closed accounts become more than an apocryphal story, businesses will continue to take advantage of what seems a much easier way to use this social media platform.

  • @caroldodsley I hear you but for some of these they are their brand… so it’s a bit harder.  It’s a bit like Mari Smith or Amy Porterfield where the distinction between the person and the product is not always so clean-cut.  With Mari and Amy, they have established pages but they also make use of their subscribe.  With these folks, they are still trying to figure out the subscribe world.  *shrugs*

  • @carolinechen-whatley I agree with @caroldodsley that every business should make their Fanpage their main focus. As far as direct messaging, if it is not taking place on the wall than it should be done through email. A good fanpage will offer an incentive to capture email or a contact me form.As a DJ who doesn’t use a stage name I am my own brand and have both a personal profile and Fanpage. But even though I have more friends on my personal profile I have been developing and putting more effort into my Fanpage because I understand it’s importance and functionality.

  • Yes when you use the subscribe you can go over your 5000 friend limit because subscribers are not friends but public followers of a person ………. the idea is not though to use your personal profile as a business communication tool —- Mari Smith has both business and personal and always uses her business page for business and not personal and her personal for personal – their will always be a cross over especially for solopreneurs and there is nothing wrong with telling people on your personal profile what you have achieved and about your plans etc as long as you use your biz page for real business connections and sharing………….

I always like to think before I post a status update on my personal profile – Is this something I would chat about with my friends on a night out?  If it isn’t then it goes on the business page…. when i post on my biz page I also think – would I chat to my clients about this …. if not it goes on my personal profile…..

Using your biz page offers far more functionality – apps and ways to grow your business and also to target your followers, and build your list too.

There have been some big name entrepreneurs who used to do everything through their personal profile and have a multitude of personal pages setup by others as fake profiles to make money and nothing else, who have actually been taken to court by Facebook in the background (that we never hear about) this could happen to anyone at anytime and sometimes it isn’t because Facebook notice something but because someone clicks the “report” button …….

  • I figured that this would be coming and was a violation of Facebook’s TOS.  I know a lot of businesses that I work with that only have profile accounts and not pages.  I will definitely let them know that these types of profiles are starting to be removed.  Thanks for the heads up!

  • It’s interesting that FB is now taking action to remove ‘business’ personal FB profiles. Since it is a breach of the TOS, I guess they are not obligated to suggest or invite these accounts to switchover to a FB Page, with a short lead time until account delete.

I believe some folks originally set up profiles this way because they were not knowledgeable of/nor understood about FB Pages.

Looking for the ‘Thumbs Up’ to what has been shared here ;) Just sayin’…

  • @beckycortino One of the reasons for the big push in 2012 is the launch of Google+ Business pages, Facebook likes to deal with competition and feels they need all businesses to be on a business page, plus do not discount the fact that they will be going public!

  • Good Morning from Idaho!
I hope everyone is having a great holiday season!

    Here’s my dilemma–not too different from the ones mentioned earlier;
I created a ‘friend’ page back in 2008, when I first heard of the possibility of Facebook taking down these pages being used by businesses I created a like page as well. Looking back now, I would have course done things much differently but now we have the Facebook limit of 5000 friends & over 3200 likes & I don’t want to lose these people; is there a way to unlink the two pages so that if Facebook does indeed take down our ‘friend’ page, I don’t lose my ‘like’ pages?

Thank you! I’m really looking forward to the club!
    Have a great day!

  • I believe one of the main reasons Facebook is cracking down on Businesses using profile for doing business is last year they had n increase on members voluntarily closing down their accounts and the main reason was they were being constantly hit with sales pitches, a majority of people who join Facebook do it to socialize and not to be dealing with salespeople.

  • @phyllis-khare Thanks so much for the subscribe button tip

@caroldodsley Thanks for reminding me of this…I know it’s a question that comes up often in the radio and dj biz.

  • @Jordin Hill   no there is no way to unlink your personal profile form your business page – and as long as your personal profile is setup as a “real” person (ie YOU) and you are now using it for personal communications and conversations and your biz page for your business then you have no need to worry that facebook will delete your personal profile.

If a lot of your 5000 friends on your personal profile are business associates then you could start to trim down your friends list and ask those business related friends to join your fanpage (put some updates out on your personal profile to advise people you are going to be purely focussed on using your business page for everything so please would they come and join you over there??)

and any who you are not keeping in touch with via your personal profile and have no engagement with – simply unfriend them and clear the way for some new friends who are interested in engaging with you :)

  • @Pam Smalbein – my pleasure :)

  • I certainly agree Facebook can be a bear to keep up with, but “Pages” was created explicitly for doing business on FB, so vow to create yours today, if you haven’t already.

  • I think it’s unfortunate that many businesses started with personal Profiles and have not switched to Facebook Pages, but I know that a lot of our clients were prompted to switch or merge by Facebook and did so right away and had no problems turning “Friends” into “Fans.”

I can see this affecting those that are not reading the fine print about the platform they are trying to use. The same can be said for Facebook’s promotions – many businesses do not comply with them and they say they did not know there even were guidelines, but every platform has Terms of Use and/or guidelines. I think the lesson learned here is to read, plan and strategize before investing too much time and resources into a third-party site.

  • @kristinawing Great reply, contrary to what some may believe there have been warnings issued about tos and violations.

  • @ajarndonald
Are you sure it was really Facebook or could it have been some scammer?

  • I’m glad they’re finally doing this. Too many people — usually solopreneurs and micro businesses — use their personal profile to promote their services and products. Then they reach the 5,000 friend limit and panic because they can’t get their friends to transfer their allegiance to their Facebook business/fan page.

If they would have started with a fan page in the first place they wouldn’t experience this problem.

I understand why many folks don’t start with a fan page, as it’s easier and more convenient to interact via a personal profile. But that still doesn’t mean it’s ethical to violate Facebook’s terms of service and promote your business via your personal page. I’m interested to hear others’ opinions on this.

  • @atlantarobin It was Facebook. It wasn’t a scammer. I am the only one person that uses my computer. I have the Facebook application in my Google Browser. I have been clicking on this same application and going directly to http://www.facebook.com/ajarn.donald1 The one time it didn’t open and the message appeared that my account was temporary locked. I restarted my computer several times and logged out and in with Facebook to get the same result. I then had my wife login from my computer with no problems. She then logged out and I tried again with the same result. I searched Microsoft and Yahoo by the links provided but couldn’t find any results. I checked the next box saying yes, I had done a complete virus scan (so I lied) and then went directly to my account. Why no one believes me:( ? Facebook doesn’t LIKE me:(

  • @ajarndonald

Boo hoo, that’s just terrible. I hope you can get help for this fast. Sorry I couldn’t offer any.

    Robin

  • @atlantarobin Help for what? For Facebook not LIKING me:) Everything is ok now since I lied to them saying that yes I done a complete virus scan. Why would I do a virus scan. I have good virus software and never had a problem. I think Facebook needs to get a complete virus scan:) Thanks anyway for your concern Robin. I wish you and your family a safe, prosperous Happy New Year 2012 and beyond:)

  • While the switch will be difficult for those who have already built up personal profies, ultimately I think it will be better for the business, since pages have so many features that profiles do not.

  •  @rivkak Excellent point of view and thank you for your contribution to this thread!

  • Not sure why a business would want a profile page since the number of friends is limited and pages are not.

  • @sunoe  Well said! Thank you for contributing.

  • I found this out recently as well.  There was Facebook profile page that was created by a current employee at my business. It was a listed personal page and used the company name and logo.  He was a bit set back and offended that I asked him to take it down.  But I informed him that it was a request from higher up, my boss, the General Manager of the company, to have it removed.  My GM wanted only one official Facebook page for our business. Which is totally understandable.       He finally deactivated it after a few days.

  • @davfalcon Thanks for sharing !

  • Hi all I haven’t read all comments but wanted to point out that if your business has over 500 friends, facebook will convert it automatically into a fan page and you will not lose anyone, you will need to contact them directly

  • @stevencole  But if they find out you are doing business on a profile page at any time they will delete your profile without any warning!

  • @laurachristianson I am with you. I will be glad if they are finally getting around to it. Kind of irritates me when businesses are effectively gaming the system. But while I have heard of isolated cases over the last couple years, I am not seeing any big murmurs in the blogosphere that the pace is picking up.

  • @abigailgorton  As I suggested in an earlier post with Facebook going public this year they want to get their house in order, they were concerned last year with the amount of voluntary closure of members accounts and the main reason given was the members were tired of being pitched on their walls.

  • Thanks for the info on this, I was actually looking at adding an additional personal page to draw traffic to a business page I do work for.  I guess this effort would have been wasted.  Thanks for saving me some time :)

  • @rlmosca Thanks for the information Rick.  It’s always nice to have the inside scoop.

  • @rlmosca ok so the point i was making was go to facebook admit your mistake and they change it over for you

  • @stevencole  No they won’t change it over for you, that is your responsibility to start a fan page and ask your friends to like your fan page, and once they remove your page all the information is deleted, Facebook is very unforgiving!

  • @rlmosca i have done this several times with the aid of people at FB to clarify there are 2 soloutions,

if a business has been running on a standard profile page and mirroring to a fan page and wants to merge the two without losing friends then you send an email along the lines of “i have a FB profile page (url) with over 500 friends (give actual number) and I have been informed I can request these friends to be transferred to my Fan page (url).  As a small business (?) I would like to ensure those interested in my service go to the correct FB page and also ensure I am using facebook according to your guidelines, please let me know when this can be done”

or if you simply want to convert your standard profile into a fan page and then use this http://www.mashable.com/2011/03/31/facebook-profile-to-page-migration/ you do not have to invite anyone over in this case the only downside is that you will lose the content on your page so make sure you strip it down before you convert

    hope this helps everyone

  • @stevencole That is  good information, the only downside is they don’t guarantee all your information will be migrated and you may lose some or all of your friends and profile info, I found this on the article you referenced…

Migrating is irreversible at this time, so you may want to download your profile information — including photos, wall posts, messages and friend list — before making the switch.

To be clear Facebook is not switching it for you, they are making available a tool that you can use and do it yourself, in my opinion adding someone to a fan page as one who has liked the page is bad business and a little deceptive, these are individuals who signed up to be friends and have not indicated they wanted to like a page, they should be giving the chance to voluntarily become likes, so I stand by my previous statement that the only way you should migrate friends to your fan page is to get their permission.

  • I know to this day I see it in other forums with different venues and such…people have a hard time in understanding the profile personal page, and their business fan page. Some are upset when they put something to their business fan page it still comes over to their personal pages…which they do not want. They get frustrated trying to understand it, and making it work that they figure it is easier with their profile page, so they keep doing it.

Do they have a facebook 101, or facebook for dummies, or something like that?:) I have been with facebook long enough, but some days still get frustrated with it trying to understand it, and make things work too. I like to go in, and socialize a bit, then go to my fan page and make a note there too….not always about products either. But, to say Hi, wishing everyone a good day, asking how others are doing, etc.

  • @rlmosca this is the last time i will comment on this thread as I do not appreciate being accused of being “a little deceptive” as i find it “a little offensive”

I have used this conversion tool many many times without a hitch, never lost a single friend always 100% conversion to fan and never once had a customer complain as they had been told over several weeks that this was going to happen and the reasons why, so if people are looking for a quick and painless way to convert a business running on a personal page then this IS the way to do it.

My alternative solution was more for people like myself who have a relationship with Facebook, if you have a business that started on a profile page but then also set up a fan page and is running both simultaneously (of which there are 1000′s) then Facebook (yes Facebook) will assist you (so long as there is more than 500 friends) in merging the accounts, please see my above template email to them.  Even if you don’t have the relationship with FB they will listen to you if you have over 500 friends on the page you wish to convert.

Facebook do not want you to lose a single fan on conversion, why would they, they are an advertising platform and want you to spend with them, why would they run the risk of upsetting you? I am sorry you have had such “unforgiving” dealings with them but i have found them nothing but pleasant and accommodating.

  • thanks for bringing this to light… I have always mentioned to people when I noticed they had set up company as personal profile, however they went ahead regardless as there didn’t seem to be much threat of removal – so will let them know again.

  • Thank you to everyone for the advice and info!  I often find clients reluctant to add a business page because of the extra work involved. One more network to track! Well now it looks like most will not have a choice. Great to have the heads up because once you cross FB it is very difficult to get back into their good graces!

    @phyllis-khare @stevencole @caroldodsley @rlmosca

  • Hi,I haven’t read all the comments in detail. But I have read on a Facebook help page that this is against the T&Cs of Facebook. However I have also seen a Facebook help page (probably the same) showing how you transfer a profile to a Facebook Page. Facebook stated explicitly that all friends will be transferred to the new Facebook Page as Fans. I have been looking for these Facebook help pages but can’t find them. Many business owners who are using a Profile to run their business have some awareness about this but have no clue how easy it is to transfer their profile to a page. They are also not aware that they will not lose their friends. Once you can provide them with solutions to their problems they will gladly ask for your help. In-bound marketing in a nutshell.I see this as a HUGE opportunity. I have ‘liked’ a lot of business Profiles from my profile account and now and them I let some of them know about the upcoming changes. The result has been that some businesses have contacted me and asked me to help them make the transfer. When you have done it once it’s easy money. But it also gets you a foot in the door and the opportunity to speak to them about their Social Media strategy in general and to get some income from training them in how to use Facebook Pages, customising the Page with new logo, landing pages, gateways, free apps etc. etc. My guess is that I will get a few long term agreements to mange their Page once they know that you can add value. If I could only find the couple of Facebook help pages then it would simply be a matter of walking into the business and speak to the business owner and show them the print. When you then describe in detail the limitations of using a Profile instead of a Page then they are pretty much sold.No I don’t sell in Social Media and never have. Proving them with information that they could risk having their profile shut down and backing it up with a copy of Facebook T&Cs can only be considered valuable content. With the T&Sc in hand and the Facebook help page which says they won’t lose any of their fans it really becomes a no brainer for the business owner to engage you as he doesn’t want to deal with it himself. If anybody has the couple of Facebook help pages readily available then it would be great to receive a link to them as I always love potential clients that are easy to convert.Jorgen

  • Hi  @rlmosca  I have been following this topic and like many here, we are all still confused.  I watched so many “gurus” change their covers to business at the beginning of the new Timelines, now many of them are changing back to a less business look.  Darn it as mine is still new.  (Ok, so all of ours are)

This is my current cover photo.  Do I need to change it again?  Taking votes.

    My profile cover

  • so confusing sometimes. I have a profile page with my name and a separate business page but most people find me via my name and friend me on my profile. should I send a message to those who want to “friend me” that they can do so through my business page and not my personal profile?

  • @caroldodsley Interesting thread. I’ll give my fans a heads up. Carol, just to clarify, anyone can remove their tie to a facebook business page by adding another admin and then removing themselves. A business page just needs an admin, and really should have two just in case, but admins can be added and removed as needed.

I believe you were making the point that a person’s profile – if it is their business page and they are an admin, are indeed tied. But just wanted to clarify.

    Thanks,Michelle

  • How will this affect FB storefront apps (eg. Etsy)? Does this mean people can’t sell their crafts through their personal page but have to set up a fan page? What about, eg. Oodle’s marketplace app — I was able to install that on my personal page so that my FB friends get notified when I’m selling an item through Oodle.

  • @ericaetelson Facebook’s Terms Of Service is very clear, no business is to be conducted on a profile page, it must be done via fan page

  • @rick mosca Any idea how Oodle manages it? When I post to Oodle (online classifieds), I can choose to have my post appear on my personal FB wall.

  • @ericaetelson  It doesn’t matter that Oodle allows it to be posted to a personal profile, if you are selling something through your profile page you are at risk of being shutdown!

  • Does anyone have experience converting your personal FB friends to Fan page “likes”? I understand that the migration tool will move your profile pics and friends to the page, nothing more, but that seems a fair compromise for someone who is already using FB mainly for business.

I’m not too concerned about the technical aspects. What’s interesting to know in advance is the number of friends who defected or “unliked” the page after conversion. Can anyone share some insight?

  • @davidwalizer  One of the problems with automatically moving your friends to your fan page is you will lose some of them, I still highly recommend sending a message to your friends requesting the move, I would also tell you to post a message on your wall announcing that you would like your friends to become a fan of your fan page. I know this will be a lot of work but that is the result of using a profile page as your business page in the first place.

  • @rlmosca Thanks. Just to clarify, my client has about 2000 friends on his profile page and 400 likes on his fan page. He’s an ex-professional athlete and has accepted many friend requests from people he doesn’t know well. We discussed some of the pros and cons of switching and he is willing to take the risk. I would feel more comfortable having some data first.

  • @rlmosca and @davidwalizer Here’s my take on it (check my bio if you want to see my credentials).

Have your friend with the personal account just change the name of his personal account to his real name. That is really simple to do. Then have him Turn On his Subscribe button. Now he can continue to create Public posts that *support* his business. He can do this without violating any of Facebook’s TOS.

Facebook will not have a problem with any of that. No need to migrate – no need to close accounts — no need to notify anyone of anything. He will need to learn how to create Public posts that are supportive for his business, not push marketing.

Then if he wants, he can go through all his personal account Friends and unfriend the ones that are not really friends and those people will become his Subscribers. Anyone that has requested to be his Friend and he ignored will now also become Subscribers.

He can also go to his business Page and tell his 400 connections to go to his personal profile and “Subscribe.” Once they have done that he can close his business page. If he wants to keep the business page (so he can create ads) then just let it sit. Every time he creates a Public post on his personal account, he can Share it to his business Page.

I am happy to continue this conversation with you if you need more help with it. Check my bio for contact information.

You can create a Timeline Cover image that represents all aspects of your life — personal and professional. I have good examples of this I can send you.

  • @ericaetelson I did some more research and using an app such as Oodle is allowed when using the timeline feature, this is not considered selling as you are only sharing your activity!,

Here is a great article on apps being used in combination with the Timeline Feature…  http://www.cnn.com/2012/01/18/tech/social-media/facebook-actions-apps/index.html

  • @phyllis-khare I like that idea and still want to get more people to his fan page. We are likely to share much more content there including promotions.

Similar question as before – do you/we have data that supports this tactic to grow business opportunities? Thanks again.

  • @davidwalizer I think the best person to ask is Mari Smith — she talks a lot about how it took her just a few weeks to get the Subscribers numbers that equaled her Fan numbers — that took four years to get. Subscribers are the same thing as a fan — it’s just a different word — the function is exactly the same.

  • @rickmosca  Thx Rick!

  • @PhyllisKhare you advice is on point!
