Free $50 Fanpage Ads? (8 posts)

  • @andrea-vahl, please forgive me for starting this thread but some of the other topics just didn’t quite fit the particular subject I wanted to address; additionally, I was hoping to get some insights after the timeline change, rather than from any of the forums prior to.

I’m sure that many have received a Facebook email to “Activate your $50 free ads coupon”

    (…and if many haven’t, then the email is just probably viral Spam and I can just delete it);

but if it is legitimate, the differing opinions on ads for Fanpage campaigns notwithstanding…

    (1) has anyone used this? (2) has there been a noticeable improvement? (3) was it trackable from the insights in the admin panel?

Appreciate any input I can get.  I’m considering giving it a try.  If it’s free $50, it might even be worth adding my own $50 to it if it provides results.

  • @joncardwell I received a $50 voucher for attending a Facebook Advertising webinar and later used it for one of the pages I manage. I haven’t received a notification of a recent free coupon though so I would be hesitant if it doesn’t appear legit and through a FACEBOOK system.

It will depend on your ad and the set reach as far as “success.” Make sure you outline specifically what your goal is from the ad and know how you will track “success” and what your measurement will be. I was trying to increase likes to the page I used the coupon to advertise for and I did gain some likes that were among out target market thus, to me, it was successful.

When you use the advertising coupons you must provide a credit card to your Facebook Advertising account in case the spend exceeds your voucher. I was very careful when I set my maximum cost and price for the clicks. I balanced everything based on the $50 coupon since I didn’t budget for advertising on Facebook for the purpose. It was solely to use the “free $50″ and see what happened. I recommend triple-checking when you set up the campaign stipulations so you don’t end up spending a fortune.

    Hope this helps!

  • @joncardwell, I got one back in 2010, it was real, I used it, it worked, I got some good clients, I got some “LIKE” and the connection is still active. For me, it was a way to learn how to use FB adds, but with out expending my money. If your email is real, use it!

Here is a copy of the email that I got in that time, so you can get an idea, how it looks like:

  • Yes, @joncardwell they are offering those deals but just as  @alexandrabriggs said, definitely make sure it is coming straight from Facebook (through their e-mails) and not something you click on somewhere else in an ad or somewhere strange.

But it can be a good thing – the money does usually expire so if nothing else, run an ad for more Likes to your page.  I just had some decent results with some Sponsored Stories.  But a full ad can be good to give you some text to work with.

  • @hildaalanisgonzalez @alexandrabriggs @andrea-vahl

Ladies, thank you so much for your input and insights. I will definitely take advantage of the offer, while proceeding with caution.  Will let you know the results on this thread.

    Thanks again

  • @hildaalanisgonzalez @alexandrabriggs @andrea-vahl

The IP address of the email was legit so I began a campaign with the coupon code provided. It said use before 5/24, so rather than waiting and forgetting that I have it, my ad is on the way courtesy of paypal. They won’t charge paypal until I’ve reached the $50. Hey, free is free… and $50 is half a tank of gas.

Thanks again for your input ladies!

One other thing about this coupon code they sent to me– it specifically addressed only one of my Fanpages, and I have a few of them. For some reason I think I may have seen another one of these offers come through for a different page, which I may have overlooked.

Lesson learned: check my email as carefully on Friday as I do on Monday.

  • @hildaalanisgonzalez @alexandrabriggs @andrea-vahl

Just thought I’d let you very nice ladies know how it went.  I used the free $50 offer FB sent and launched a campaign for 6 days with a max budget of $10 per day. I don’t have my report in front of me but it measured out to be about 70-80 cents per click.

I used it on a page that featured one of my books, http://www.facebook.com/Christ.Crucified. I let it run for almost 7 days, cutting it off on the 7th day… and my cost after the $50 free advertisement was only $19 & some odd change charged to my paypal acct, having received nearly 70 new ‘Likes’

It may take some time to see if that translates into any conversions… and another thing that I realize on this, is that I ran it through a very narrow audience, as this was a Christian book as it pertains to the gospel of the crucified Christ; so it was viewed by many folks, but far less than a typical campaign run for something like consulting or home-based business opportunities, etc. So all-in-all, it went well.  It may take some time to analyze the nuts and bolts of my data… but I’m glad I went this route, as I’m nearing a major launch in online niche businesses that should have a wider audience. Using the very conservative figures from this test campaign through the $50 free ad will give me some idea at what I can possibly expect from a wider launch, while having very conservative estimates to keep me from overextending myself on my future ad campaign.

Thank you so much for your input and insights.  It was so very much appreciated.  Just wanted to share with you the results.

  • That sounds like it went well @joncardwell!  Your click price sounds good and your conversions sound good as well.  I typically have seen an average price of a $1/fan (and depending on the market some people can pay more).  So congratulations on running your first ad campaign!
