FB pages vs places, multi locations (3 posts)

  • I have a client with multiple brick-n-mortar locations in the surrounding area. There is one primary FB page for their main location, and then a FB place page for each of the “satellite” locations so people can “check in.”

I’m working out the overall FB strategy and how these pages can and should work together. I believe I have the overall gist of it, but I’d like to hear from anyone who might have some experience with a situation similar to that of my client (multi-location). Any recommendations for managing all of these individual pages? Is there anything I will run into that I should keep an eye out for? etc.

I haven’t been able to find any recent information on managing this type of situation anywhere on line. Most goes back to 2010 when merging & unmerging pages & places was happening.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide!!

  • It is definitely challenging with a smaller number of locations @mycommcoach
They are supposed to be rolling out “Global Pages” for places with lots of locations and maybe multiple countries now but that probably doesn’t fit for your client.

I think right now you do have to have multiple Pages and I would work with some type of content strategy on when you post the same content and when you post location specific content.  Are they close enough that people may Like both sets of pages?

  • Thank you for your response, @andrea-vahl.  Sometimes it just helps to have someone validate that I’m not missing anything!

Yes, the stores are close enough that a customer might even visit / check in / like more than one, so excessive cross-posting may be a concern. I have some strategies in mind to manage location specific content vs general content. I also need to make sure that I am clear on the differences between the pages & places in case there’s something in there we can leverage.

Even so, I’m still looking around to see how others have managed this situation. Happy to build my own wheel, but likely to have more success if I have a wheel to model it after!

    Thanks!
