FB contest apps (13 posts)

  • Does anyone have any good suggestions on who to use for a Facebook contest 3rd party app besides Wildfire? Who else would you recommend using? I’ve used Wildfire and while they were very easy to implement, I’m looking for something a little more robust that offers more features/design options.

    Thx for the help!

  • I have a limited amount of experience with ShortStack but from what I have seen everything seems to be relatively easy to implement.

  • @adamglassman I would totally recommend ShortStack – they are the best in the industry at the moment in my opinion and their support and video tutorials are fantastic.

  • @adamglassman Lujure is my favorite.  They have the ability to fully customize or use their contest widget that has a built in countdown timer.

  • I can also recommend Shortstack. Not too hard to figure out and it looks sharp!

  • @adamglassman  There are a lot of contest apps listed here:  http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/facebook-promotions-what-you-need-to-know/

I also have a post about it here:  http://andreavahl.com/facebook/how-to-run-a-successful-facebook-contest.php

There are a lot of great apps out there and more being developed all the time.

  • So far, I have only tried two. Short stack and Tabsite.  I found that Tabsite was much better simply because those who are in the contests can share their entries on Google+, Twitter, their FB business pages and Profiles.   Short stack did not allow all that sharing. Basically you can only share on your own profile page and the post that was shared was not attractive at all.

We had much more activity and interaction with tab site and only paid $14 for it.  I signed up for one month just to use the contest appl.  It was the same cost for Short Stack.

What are the prices for other contest apps?  Which ones allow the most sharing?

  • Hi @adamglassman. I’ve used a very basic app from time to time called rafflecopter.  It is free to use.

  • Great suggestions folks! I appreciate it.

  • Thx for the update @AndreaVahl

In your first Blog post you mention that FB TOS states that you can’t announce the winner on FB.  I am just starting up a new contest which will have an email opt-in form but certainly everyone won’t opt in to it …so my question is, how am I supposed to contact the winner if it’s not through FB?

Also is it ok to show a video of me selecting the winner (as long as I still contact the winner separately to inform them)?

btw, the second link in your post above gives a 404 error.

thx for all your help …Shane

  • @shanejohnston  You should have a way to gather their e-mails in some way to notify them.  Plus you can gather those e-mails for your e-mail newsletter (as long as you let them know they will be on it).

You do need to notify them first and get their permission to congratulate them on Facebook (especially if you have some video congratulations)

Sorry about the error – here’s the post:  http://andreavahl.com/facebook/how-to-run-a-successful-facebook-contest.php

  • Thanks @andreavahl

Do you have a good example of a contest landing page?

If signing up to your list is an option for them in the contest but they don’t opt-in then how can you possibly notify them outside of Facebook?

  • Hi all,

I used Short Stack but the app does not show up on mobile devices. Any suggestions?
