Fast Start Facebook Marketing Tips (12 posts)

  • Hey everbody,

I was wondering if I could get some advice on how to get off to a fast and effective start with my facebook marketing. I’ll give you a quick outline of my situation and my current goals so you can better understand where I’m coming from.

I have a self-help book on building personal leadership skills and I have a website from which I would like to sell this book. So my primary goal for my facebook marketing is to drive traffic to my website where they can purchase the book.

I currently have a basic facebook profile page and zero friends! Naturally I need friends in order to have an audience that will “see” my updates when I post them. My initial action was to search the facebook network and cherry-pick individual people with similar interests to become friends with, but I quickly found out that this process was very tedious and not a great way to leverage my time.

Then I read about facebook groups and decided to join a group and form some relationships but when I tried to search the database for groups in the “Self-Help” and “Personal Development” categories it kept returning zero results! I know there have got to be groups in those fields. Facebook is too large to not have any. What am I doing wrong? How can I properly do a search for the groups I want to join? And how can I effectively use those groups to quickly accumulate friends and have an audience to market to?

Thanks everyone for your time. If there’s anything I can do to be of service to anyone here please let me know how I can help. Also, I’m including a link to my website incase anyone wants to look it over and give me some advice. http://www.professad.com

Thanks everyone and take care, “Professa D

  • @darrendouglas Hi Darren

First up, love the name – Professa D. :)

    But more seriously…

You can start by including a link to your Facebook from your website (and your emails).

Have you given any thought about your Facebook strategy? If not, then start there, before you do anything else. You can have a look at my post on developing a social media plan for some ideas.

You should also ask yourself some basic questions: Why do you want a Facebook page? What do you want to achieve with it? For a few more ideas please have a look at this post of the 5 questions you need to ask yourself.

I would recommend you run some Facebook ads and/or a contest to get people interested in your page. Also start including some real benefit for people on Facebook. Ask yourself: Why would someone join my Facebook page?

What are you offering that is compelling and intersting and helpful?

Answer those questions first and you shouldn’t have any trouble getting some likes.

    Hope that helps.

  • With the changes Facebook has made to pages you may be better off trying to develop sales through your profile page. How many friends do you have? You could post self help tips on your fan page and share on your profile page with a comment tagging your page.

  • @darrendouglas, I agree with Russell. You need to be clear on your social media goals and you need a social media plan. I also agree with the comment that Kathy made. I think that is good advice.

  • @russellallert Your idea of a contest strikes a chord with me. Others have suggested it. I wonder what would be the best way to begin to initiate such a thing. Does anyone have any suggestions. I am an artist/designer and content creater. I would be willing to network with anyone who has some ideas. @darrendouglas I like the idea of a book on building leadership. I suppose the one thing that we need is a way to present to the facebookers and tweeters without seeming to hard sell desperate.

  • @durkbarton You may want to have a look at this thread regarding contests, Durk.

I am also in the middle of writing a post about it, so you may want to keep an eye on my blog. :)

    Cheers!
    Russell

  • @darrendouglas How about contacting your real live friends and asking them to be your FB friend? That is the purpose of a personal profile. Also, about search, FB search is really irritating – it does NOT return all results, it returns some that it thinks are close to your geography or linked to your friends list.

  • Gotta agree with @russellallert here. First, make sure you are clear why you need a FB page, then tactics will follow. Some pretty good advice already in the thread above, includint having your real-life friends like your page, and paying minimal amounts for FB ads.

    Good luck!

  • @fredericgonzalo Thanks, Frederic. :)

  • @darrendouglas Yu want me to be honest? .. @russellallert Knows what’s he’s talking about. I took some of his advice a week or so ago and saw a 300% increase in people reached according to Facebooks weekly update and Insights. No joke.

  • @sgsrecording Thanks!

I am glad my advice is having some good results for you. :)

  • Hey everybody,

First I wanna express my gratitude to everyone who took time to give me advice on this subject. I’m new to using social media for marketing and I greatly appreciated everyone’s help.

@russellallert Glad to hear you like my name, it’s actually a childhood alias (lol). I reviewed your recommended articles as well as a few others on your site and found all of them immensely helpful! I particularly liked “How Not To Run A Facebook Page“. I also stopped by and “Liked” your FB page :)

I finally figured out how to properly use the FB search feature and found a ton of groups in my niche that I could potentially join! Using the advice I’ve received on this forum I plan to begin implementing my marketing strategy shortly. I’ll keep everybody posted on my progress. Once again if I can be of service to anyone, please let me know what I can do.

Thanks everyone and take care, “Professa D”
