Fan Page or Friend Page (8 posts)

  • Hello All

Do you prefer a Fan Page or a Friend Page for your business…

Which do you find to be more engaging?

  • @elle Hello Lynn,
I believe if you are a business, you cannot have a Friend Page, or you risk having it closed down by Facebook because it is against their policy. The real question is perhaps what kind of page a business wants to have: Group or Page.

You will find more on this on FB blog: https://www.facebook.com/blog/blog.php?post=324706977130

    Cheers,
    FG

  • @elle @fredericgonzalo  I do use my Facebook personal page to post some business things like blog posts, webinars, and general information about what I’m doing in my business.  I do find that people engage with that regularly and I think it’s a good idea, since not everyone likes to “Like” a fan page.  But yes,  @fredericgonzalo is right, you can’t have a personal profile that is named your business – that can be shut down and is against terms

  • Hi @andrea-vahl

You know what’s funny about this?  I remember when FB was new – you could have any name you wanted for your friend page and many people used a business name.

I did use a biz name as this was when I still had a retail shop online. Then they came along and said you could use your real name and to grab that if you could. Mine was taken so I stayed with the retail shop name.

It is still that way – and they’ve never shut me down. The thing is FB is my least favorite SM place so I don’t do much there except converse with family and friends. I do have a group there (very small) and only post a time or two a week.

At any rate – the rules there seem to apply to some but not all members. It’s one of the things I don’t like.  They seem to pick and choose at times.  Mystifying.

    Eileen

  • Thanks for the feedback…

You’re business is able to have a friend page, however you have to be careful what you choose as you cover photo…

  • Hello Ian…I had my assistant comb through the terms again (updated 6/2012).  Not seeing it?

  • @pacey @elle The Facebook terms do state that for personal accounts you have to use your real name:  Registration and Account Security
Facebook users provide their real names and information, and we need your help to keep it that way. Here are some commitments you make to us relating to registering and maintaining the security of your account:

    1. You will not provide any false personal information on Facebook, or create an account for anyone other than yourself without permission

You are in danger of having your profile shut down if it’s not an actual person’s name and I know people that it’s happened to – but yes, you are right, @supereb  - Facebook does not monitor this very well and there are many personal profiles out there that have business names.
