Fan Page Events (3 posts)

  • I do communications and social media for a large, urban church. Initially, I would try to post all major events on Facebook. In the past six months however, I’ve stopped doing this. We just have so many events! Beyond being difficult and time consuming to keep up, I wasn’t sure there was much return.

Before I completely negate creating events on Facebook, I thought I’d get some feedback on what you guys are doing. So, Facebook events—yes or no?

  • I like events for the fact that people can let the page manager know if they are going. You can see which events are attractive and which are not so much. If there are only a few of your fans going, you can look out for them during the event and connect with them live. I’m sure they’ll feel special when you recognize them in real life…

I also noticed that events don’t generate lots of interaction when only created in the app. So additionally to the notification of creation, my fans receive another message from me when I share the event after creation (either immy after or at a time closer to the event date). This status update with the event as link creates more comments and likes.

  • @comamy I have mixed feelings about Events on Pages.  I do like the things that @claudiapoeckl mentioned but they would be better if you could invite the Fans directly.  Social Media Examiner has the Blogging Fundamentals workshop coming up and 1000 people are going but only 46 have RSVP’d in the Event:  http://www.facebook.com/events/290705097691327/  But the ones who have are interacting.

I would only create Events for some of the bigger Events you have – if you have a lot going on, people may get tired of RSVPing.  But they can be a nice way to get the word out about any changes.
