Facebook’s ”Big News”? (9 posts)

  • What do you think is today’s “big news” from Faceboook or is it all hype? #facebook

  • http://searchengineland.com/facebook-graph-search-arrives-to-challenge-google-145216
    It remains to be seen how we as marketers best use it

  • Mostly hype, I say. Not impressed by all the buzz for what? A new feature for search that’s still in beta mode? Hmmm…

  • @mtheory agree with @fredericgonzalo on the hype. The invitation tagline which said ‘Come and see what we’re building’ has failed to show the world what they’re actually building. I mean if they meant to show what they’re building, they should rather have given it straight to users or at least to users with development skills i.e. developers.facebook.com users. But it’s in beta (not actually beta, it is still under development and you just have to join the waiting list).

    Well, let’s hope for the live launch soon and let us see how it is going the change the way people use facebook.

  • actually it’s quite brilliant. We just provided a fan with some actionable advice for her pet bird. So think about it, if the FB searchers search results put our fan page at the number 1 “SERP” sending us the traffic “organically” (because we have high fan engagement and “x” reach) it provides more value to us as a fan page owner. granted it’s not global like Google but a billion isn’t a bad number to work with especially because FB knows I like motorcycles. I post motorcycle related content, this is information Google does not have which would be good to know if i was searching for “triumph motorcycle parts” on FB.

  • @mitch-rezman sounds  good…. i hope it works out that way for pages…

  • I definitely think there are some interesting possibilities
    @mitch-rezman @annfurnivall @moinshaikh @fredericgonzalo @mtheory
    But it will really depend on the execution.  Right now the Facebook search is so bad it’s a joke.  I hope that we will be able to find at least a Page name when we search for it.

    I also think it could be huge for brands.  If people are interacting on a brand page and then their friends search for something related to that brand and they see their friend’s post on the page (assuming it’s good) then it will really encourage brands to try and get interaction.

    I also think they need to come out with it quickly.  I’m sure they had a million or more people sign up for the beta testing.  Hopefully they are ready :)

  • There was a good article this morning by Jim Edwards in Business Insider:Is Facebook’s ‘Graph Search’ really just a plan to rescue the ‘Like‘?

  • I think it’s pretty cool.  After the Bing integration I knew they had to be doing something to make their search functional.  They have a huge development team over there that is always looking for features to improve and search was really needed some attention.  Glad they finally at least announced they have been addressing this issue.
