    Facebook Integration for WordPress
By Matt Kelly - Today at 11:00am

Starting today WordPress publishers can easily integrate Facebook features, such as social publishing and mentions, through the new Facebook for WordPress plugin.

The plugin was built by Facebook engineers in collaboration with open source partners, and makes it simple for anyone to make their WordPress site more social – no coding required. The plugin will also work on mobile and support internationalization.

  • @warrenveach Hi Warren

I just installed this and while the plugin is relatively easy to install, if you want to incorporate the Social Publisher feature (allows you to publish to an author’s Timeline and Fan Page) you have to set up a Developer’s account and go through the process of creating an app.

This may confuse some people but there are instructions in the plugin itself.

Overall it looks good. Several options are available, like a “Recommendations Bar” that shows other posts when a reader scrolls to the bottom of your blog, and a Comments feature that can replace the native WordPress comments system.

The one obvious drawback is that it just deals with Facebook and no other social networks, but if you are happy with that then I would recommend it.

  • I would wait a couple of days to make sure the plugin doesn’t break anything or cause some side effects. (just to be on the safe side)

  • I’m planning to wait for some days to see responses of people about the plugin then will think about using it.. :)

  • I tried to install it on one of my blogs and kept getting errors. I haven’t seen too many people encountering installation errors, so it could just be a quirk with my theme. Either way, I’m going to wait and read some more reviews before I try setting it up again.

  • I don’t have any comments about the plugin, but I do have an opinion about automated cross-posting. I don’t think it is a good practice. I would much rather encourage my clients to take the 5 extra minutes to post manually on Facebook (or into any of the scheduling tools) and write a customized intro paragraph appropriate for Facebook and their Facebook community.

Isn’t social media about making connections? You can’t make a connection through an API or automated feed.

While they are there, I advise my clients to poke around, read items in their news feed, comment, like, etc.

I just don’t like the whole social-media-as-my-personal-PR-machine mentality. I’m not against tools making things easier, or helping us schedule delivery at optimal times. I feel like it loses all of the personal touch when an algorithm creates your intro paragraph based on WordPress content.

    Just my opinion.

  • It would be interesting to see if this plugg in will really sustain. cause it seems causing inconvenience for whomever is using it
