Facebook Trims Reach of Brand Pages (Analysis) (11 posts)

  • This was an interesting read (no conspiracy theory here). I have noticed that my text-only posts receive more views than my visual quotes now.
Article from Social Media Today: http://socialmediatoday.com/node/1031351?utm_source=smt_newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=newsletter&inf_contact_key=7048bd17988264f3b6019cf6269511c5f72ab482733ebe783dfd4f6e22db2f3c
Whatever the reason behind the changes, Renegade has found significant evidence that the changes have negatively affected the reach of branded pages, especially those using photos as their primary post type.”

  • Very interesting. Thanks for sharing, Kristy.

  • @dianebianchi It’s helpful to know so we can keep tweaking our posts to better fit the latest format!

  • @kc_kreative Yes, they seem to change all the time! :)

  • Interesting find @kc_kreative  I’ve definitely found that the text posts have the higher reach on the Social Media Examiner Page but we are still getting higher engagement on our photo posts for the most part.  My take is to just vary your posts to allow for either more reach or more engagement.

  • I agree, there’s still higher engagement on photo posts. We make use of both photo and text. It works for us. We have however noticed a declined in reach in the past few months. Is there still an issue with facebook trimming the reach of pages?

  • im  mixing  like andrea says….but  dang,  they sure like the photo posts  best….   i am  doing an album  now and   getting  lots  of  engagement…not promoted…

  • When Edgerank shifts everyone freaks out (Helter Skelter on LI)  When Google rolls out a Panda update it’s (yawn) ok we can’t play THAT game anymore.

That said we’re 95% Image – even really cool vids are are glossed over. We had an image post today where a fan posted 2 vids in the thread (a first) I’ll be watching Insights for that. I have to follow a post on this site to install Facebook stats in GA.

Ultimately it’s more important to focus on the on the Facebook visitor to website/blog conversion metric (and assisted) because reach alone and $7 will get you a cup of Starbucks Costa Rica Finca Palmilera coffee.

  • @andrea-vahl @freddie-blanco @annfurnivall I mix my posts and the photos usually do well (likes and shares); however, the text-only entries get the most views (and the occasional like). Good to know what is working for others!

  • We’ve been studying how we can increase our engagement on our facebook page. This includes knowing the right time to post, the number of post per day, manual vs. scheduled posts using certain apps. Bottom line is, it’s the quality of posts that really matters.

  • @freddi-blanco look at http://edgerankchecker.com
