Facebook Topic of the Week(7/15/12): Learning preferences with Facebook? (11 posts)

  • We all have to keep up with Facebook (and everything else!)  What are your favorite ways to keep up and learn about Facebook?  Do you:
Take classes (online/offline)?Read certain blogs?Dive in and figure it out yourself?Google as you go?Hire a consultant?

What are your favorite ways to learn?

  • I have found getting to grips with the deeper facets of Facebook pretty confusing……especially during the introduction of so many innovations over the past six months. I tend to look for good blogs or an ebook…although I haven’t found a good, up to date, one yet…any suggestions?

  • i keep up  with the parts i   want  from   liking a very  few facebobook  pages…. if  something over my head on the tekk side    sounds important i  show it to my tekk person  and  we  go  from there…i dont like  webinars….. ,,….   for a lot of the  questions i have,  other heavier  users  are a  greAT  SOURCE..even if its  just  watching  their page…….. .for  the major  tekk details  i lke the grandma  mary page…and a big plus there is  that  you  have a  lot of   fans and  have to  face    the issues  about  how  to   interact   with  your  fans  ……  knowing  how to  do  things  is   great  but  figuring out  what   you  should  actually  do is the  main thing…

..the  main issues or  fine points i  would like to   talk about  ,relate  to   a big   active  LOCAL page,  arent   really  covered   by a lot of   the   info out there…..which is  kind of natural  becasuse   almost all the gurus  are  about   connecting  with the whole   range of   the web…..where i  need and   want to connect  with  folks who   might  drive to see me……..

i think  the social  media   experts  should  feature  actual  users  more, ones who are doing   the thing….. thats what i would like to read about…..

p.s….pinterest advice  is  about the worst….after  good intro  advice that  you see  everywhere……i wold  say   80 % of the  folks  giving out   pinterest advice  probably have no  experience….and  the  advice is  super   redundant    and   doesnt   advance  into      the user   issues and  problems and possibilities…….

  • I have liked a few facebook pages that deal with FB matters. Besides that, I like this forum a lot. For the rest, I try to works things out by playing around and I also just google when I can’t find the answer to my questions.

It’s really difficult to keep up with the changes currently…

  • I usually jump in and try to figure it out myself, tweaking around with it, Google as I go or hit up Social Media Examiner and Mashable.

  • Jump in and Google. I learn a lot from playing around, and find I learn the most when I can combine playing around with reading intelligent posts about specific features. If it is an overview type thing, I usually find it useless, unless I’m starting out completely new in something. Then it’s a good starting point.

  • I jump in and do as I see changes or updates. I added “Social Media” as an Interest on FB so able to see what changed daily.  You Tube has a few good intros, but I have been keeping up by just hitting a few fav blogs (like Mashable or reviewing here or UNMarketing) & I google for more info when initial explanations are sparse or too vague.  Most webinars are very specific to either developers selling their FB services, or a target industry that is selling product/ebooks.

  • I usually just jump in and play around and use Google or this forum. Sometimes it seems like I will never catch up to what is coming out!

  • Hands on experience , however it is time consuming and therefore costly.

  • I’m a jump in kinda person too.  But I definitely appreciate webinars and things where I always learn a new way to look at things.  But usually if it’s a pressing problem, you have to figure it out right away!

  • Mari Smith is always saying Google is sometimes the best way to get an answer. Following social media Facebook pages on my list is helpful too.
