Facebook Timeline – How Can I Determine Which Photo Shows? (18 posts)

  • In Facebook’s Timeline how can I determine which photo shows up in the photo app? I had one all set to introduce my contest but it’s now changed – I can’t figure out how to set it back to the one I had.

    Thanks in advance!

  • It’s always the most recent Dave. If you have one that you always want displayed, just make sure that you upload it (again) last after you’re done uploading your other images. It’s what I do on my page. But, then also immediately hide it from your timeline (don’t delete it as that’ll delete the last image you uploaded)

  • Thank you, Heather. I appreciate your assistance. :)

  • @clusterwebdesign, I didn’t know what you hide on your Timeline will be seen by others; thanks for the heads up!

  • Hi Edward @edwardbrown,

That’s actually not what I said. If you hide it, it’s hidden from everyone. The point I was making was that, if you’ve uploaded a graphic, you want to HIDE it on your timeline so that people don’t know that you are repeatedly uploading the same graphic all the time. Once hidden, no one sees it, including you as Admin. But, if you DELETE the timeline entry where it shows that you’ve uploaded a graphic, my experience has been that the actual graphic from your photo album will also be deleted.

  • OK, I feel better now @clusterwebdesign. I understand what you mean now!

  • @clusterwebdesign thanks…i wondered how to  do  that  too…

  • @clusterwebdesign

I do the uploading and hiding thing, too. I hope that FB will come up with a way for us to set a default image in the “Photos” spot. It’s a shame to be able to brand the other apps with a custom image, but not the Photos app, which, incidentally, is the only app that stays permanently in the first position.

  • I think though if you upload an image and then hide from the Timeline it still shows up on the newsfeed of your fans.. so keep that in mind because if you are posting a repeat photo over and over you may annoy your fans.

  • I’ve not noticed that, fortunately. I’ve hidden my uploaded photo in Timeline and my newsfeed doesn’t show it.

But maybe my friends/fans do see it. Anyone have any further info on this?

  • Hi Dave .. if it is a contest you are promoting, why not use the Events App and display that as one of your top 4 apps? That way you can control the graphic permanently for the “Event” and “count down the days in your posts to promote it?”

Just a suggestion? If I got what you are asking about?

  • @clusterwebdesign ~ doesn’t work on mobile apps . . . what you hide on your timeline is still seen in the mobile app right now.

  • Thanks @dedimason – I actually noticed today that it’s also on the Facebook feed app on my website too. So, hiding it on your timeline does not remove it in all places. Shame.

  • Gee, I didn’t know you could do that, @dianecossie! That’s definitely what I’ll do for my next promotion.
    Thanks!

  • @daveholmes – Get the particular contest/sweepstake you want to promote as one of your top 4 apps; then do a post promoting the contest and pin it, so it shows prominently on you timeline for 7days, that way you get double visibility. Hope this helps

  • Thanks,  @dannish247, I did that. Now I just have to figure out how to do my next promotion as an event. That shouldn’t be too difficult (I hope) and will begin addressing this as soon as my current promo has been processed – probably Tuesday.

  • Ok good @daveholmes, Just take it easy with the promotions; too many promotions within a short period of time, has the capacity to reduce their worth as fans may not respond as they should. It’s always better to give time for pre-contest periods to drive enthusiasm for your up-coming promotions.

  • Sounds like good advice,  @dannish247.

    Thanks.
