Facebook Timeline Headline Graphic Reduced to Low Rez? (11 posts)

Topic tags: graphic, quality, Timeline
  • I’ve switched to the Timeline for my business page and the headline graphic I’ve uploaded looks like it’s a low resolution picture. I recently added some additional text to it and it looks clean in Paint.NET but any way I save it – as a JPG, GIF, TIF or PNG it looks “messy” around the letters.

    Here’s what I mean:  https://www.facebook.com/AffordableComputerSvc

What is the best photo format to use for uploads to Facebook’s Timeline?

    Do you have any advice?

    Thanks in advance!

  • The link doesn’t seem to work for me Dave @daveholmes. Is it correct?

  • Hi @daveholmes – it looked fine to me but the new Timeline guidelines state that you can’t have ANY calls to action in your Timeline cover photo.  http://www.facebook.com/help?page=336062209769713  Which I think is totally frustrating.  But you can have a call to action in the App custom photos.  So you can say “Click here to enter our drawing” instead of having that blue envelope there.  As far as photo formats, that has been a problem for ages that I have never been able to solve – I’ve matched people’s resolution, size, and format exactly but the graphics can look completely different – I don’t have a great answer!

  • @daveholmes

The photo you used for your cover is 800px × 600px

Facebook allows 851 x 315px for the cover photo recreating it with those dimensions should solve your problem.

    I recommend using a JPEG

  • Thank you,  @andrea-vahl. I’ve corrected my graphic to remove the call to action.

I wonder if it’s possible to tweak the graphic and name of the app now that it’s there? I saw the option to do this during creation of the promotion, but I don;’t see how it can be done now; perhaps it can ONLY be done during the promotion setup.

@scottmadden, thanks for the info! I’ll try the 851 x 315px size instead.

  • No you can totally edit that later, @daveholmes.  All you do is click the down arrow next to the top row of apps.  Now you will be able to edit each of the apps (except the photo app) by clicking the little pencil icon in the upper corner of the app picture.  You can move them around and click Edit settings to change the name of the app (can have a call to action in the name like Click me!) or add a new custom tab picture.  The picture size is 111 x 84.

Thanks @scottmadden for finding his resolution issue!

  • Your Welcome!

    @andrea-vahl @daveholmes

  • Thanks,  @andrea-vahl! It worked on the name; I’ll fix the graphic as soon as I create a replacement.

  • @scottmadden, thank you again for the advice on the headline graphic – it worked!

@andrea-vahlthanks for your advice, as well.
Woo-hoo! I fixed the app graphic and name as well as the headline graphic thanks to you folks. My page looks much better now!

  • @daveholmes ~ LOL ~ I read your first post, opened your page and saw no issues . . . came back here to read the rest of the thread and found that it’s all fixed.  Looks good!

  • Thanks,  @dedimason!
