FACEBOOK TIMELINE FOR BUSINESS PAGES – Have you prepared? (19 posts)

Topic tags: Business Pages, Timeline
  • Hi Guys,

Just thought id create a post to highlight the news that Facebook might finally introduce its timeline to business pages by the end of the month. This has been suggested by Mashable and wanted to get your feedback on what you guys think. Is this a good thing? How will businesses leverage its new features e.g. Not having the ability to use tabs and should they consider a more frictionless sharing experience through – Read, watch, listen or even creating their own action. Think this new feature can bring allot of benefit to both small and larger businesses especially in terms of branding and with a timeline its a great way to showcase a businesses heritage.

  • I think it’s an incredibly good thing. Timeline allows your brand to be more visible, to really showcase what you offer through photos and videos. The big Timeline header is perfect for brands to represent what they are about, too. Honestly, it’s an opportunity for brands to offer cool, unique timeline headers to their fans.

The company I work for is preparing for it. If it really does roll out later this month, or next month, we’ll be ready with something unique.

  • @ravishukle there are already too many discussion re. fb timeline for pages in the SME Club here, you may refer to Facebook Forum of this club as your topic is about Facebook, it should have been posted there and not in the small business category. By the way, i have also read abt it and they might unveil it during feb 29 conference.
    Thanks,

  • Thanks @scottbush fully agree :)

@Moin although this is a Facebook related issue i was posting this topic specifically from the business angle – how this will benefit the  small – large businesses and what they can do to benefit from this. That is why this is relevant in this forum. Thank you for pointing out the other posts on the topic i will be sure to take a look.

  • Many of our small business clients have been asking about this for their Facebook pages.  Will all brand pages automatically revert to the Timeline format as the personal pages have?

p.s. Thanks for posting about this HERE – I know it’s Facebook-related but I just happened to be checking out the discussions on small businesses when I saw this and it jogged my memory that I owe a client info on Timeline for brands.

  • Hey guys…moving this to the Facebook group as it’s more applicable there.

  • @Ravi Im not sure that facebook will get rid of applications for pages, a lot of money is spent on them and most business’ now have them. If facebook do, it may be more of a step backwards for brand pages than improving with the timeline, which is why I think they wont get rid of it.

Personally I cannot wait for the timeline to come to pages, for Silverstone we have so much history we can show on it, although it will take some time, we will be able to show changes such as the different track configurations, when the first GP was. Im actually quite excited… Is that sad!?

  • Timeline will be a much needed change to pages and should give us a lot more branding possibilities.

  • I think it will be a lot easier to brand. I too do not believe FB will remove the fan/app pages, but it sounds like there will be better exposure for them. The current placement of the tabs doesn’t allow for good visibility.

If they place the pages into boxes like the current timeline is setup I think it will be a lot better exposure.

Also, there’s nothing that says FB is going to make this change at the end of the month. The statements are that they will be discussing pages for brands on the 29th. and we should have better information at that time as to how soon we can except to have timeline for pages.

  • Hi Guys @scottprock, @scottayres, @rich-brooks, @pajannherr, @ravishukle, @moinshaikh, @sbush, me and my team were thinking hard about how the timeline pages will look like, so we created an image on it. Read the blogpost here: http://www.antavo.com/en/facebook/promotions-on-timeline-pages
    Zsuzsi

  • @zsuzsaszab great blog post, I’m certainly keeping a keen eye on the news feeds for Timeline and pages. Hoping to get a more concrete set of guidelines to implement at the earliest opportunity.

I like your assessments and will be watching this unfold.

  • @scottprock Hi Scott, I am glad you liked it :)

  • Okay so haven’t yet seen the timeline on my pages, but worried about those special html custom pages… what will happen?
also, does anyone have a handle yet on the exact size for group page headers? The smaller one I uploaded 600 x 160 was blurry (stretched) and slightly larger at 800 x 180 works nice, but it will not let me reposition it. awk!

  • @sndinc Here’s a great article that showcases 40 creative timeline designs, and the post includes the dimensions to use if you wanted to create something similar.

That is assuming, Timeline for pages will have the same format. If they do anything different, we most likely won’t know 100% until there’s more information from Facebook. We’re hoping to learn more after the Feb 29 conference for marketers.

    Enjoy … Scott

  • This it terrific… love some of those cover images!
But what about the header area now available on group pages. I’m having trouble with it…
    Susan

  • @Zsuzsa Very nice article.. you must have the inside scoop… guess we have to roll up our sleeves and get it done.

  • @prestonodenbrett Hi Preston, It’s coming soon for sure, we will see how it will be on 29th February. Nobody know yet exactly what will happen.
    ;)

  • @sndinc – the image dimensions for the groups page is 850px by 200px with a 30 px buffer (don’t use zone) across the bottom. These dimensions worked perfectly for me.

    Heather

  • Heather,
The image I uploaded previously is gone again. and I just tried to upload the size you suggested, and not only will it not accept it, but sends me to a previous page.
Are they still fine tuning their code?
    Susan :)
